should GQ make it easier to be detected?

I ran across this last night and my thoughts are no, but it seems to be that way in the game.

Noise travels far under water.

They don't hear the shift change siren either.

I wish they'd tone that down when running in silent.

i'ld preferr the damage control party cease when going silent. for some reason they're still working and have to be stood down manually after GQ has sounded

Yea no kiddin it scares the crap outa me.

But yea crew members running about securing doors or whatever makes a hellua lot more noise than sitting around picking there noses.

You should go to GQ any time an enemy ship is spotted; long before silent running becomes necessary.

fullmetaledges 08-09-07 05:27 PM

yeah thats what I meant. I didn't assume people were doing it while attacking. My question is why if your already at GQ do the destroyers pick you up so much easier? I was being pinged and just for the hell of it i secured from battlestations and the pinging immediatly stopped but when i went back to gq it started right away again. From my understanding silent running at gq is the same as silent running while not at gq with the exception of the watertight doors being closed and all the crew at the ready.

Capt. Shark Bait 08-09-07 05:32 PM

they hear you cuz you damage control party is activated at the same time. you'll have to manually deactiate them until they're really needed, but by then it'll be too late:ping:

fullmetaledges 08-09-07 05:34 PM

what if i have nobody assigned to the dc party?

That should be the case; silent running is silent running, and all hands should be at their battle stations during battle. If it isn't then something's wrong.

Again.
