GWX Scope Reflection

I finished up my fourth patrol (now 1940) last night...

I think I've found the perfect balance between realism and eye-candy. I have everything turned off except for the event cam, I like to watch the torpedos launch and the ships sinking, and the event cam gives me that without a huge realism % hit. Allows me to play at 97% (and no map updates). Event cam also adds a cool shudder-effect to the explosions that doesn't exist in the ex-cam.

I have noticed two little glitches though, not sure if it's already been reported...

1) In really huge seas, when a wave washes over the bridge I notice I can see the reflection of a raised parascope in the water. Anyone else notice this? I keep looking over my shoulder for a raised scope that isn't there...

2) The nav officer no longer gives the weather reports; which is fine, I don't mind asking the watch officer. But I notice that if I ask the WO for the weather and there's no one at the NO station, the WO will just stare at me and I get the message no officer at station.

Asking the WO about the weather is no bid deal for me, I can look around and see the weather myself, but the extended scope reflection is a little annoying.

External view is better choise for me. I found event cam annoying pop up window when I must take quick actions in some cases.. when it pops up it blocks some controls which is frequently used with delay (since I have to close that window). :hmm:

Perhaps including GWX in the thread title isn't appropriate since the scope reflection may very well be an issue with the stock game...

Only in the stock game the waves never get large enough to notice it? :lost:

Rgr... I think it may be a stock issue. IIRC we only fixed missing wakes from the snorkel and maybe the scope a lonnnng time ago.

Can you post a screenie to show what you are describing in relation to the reflection in question. (I dunno if we can do anything about it, but would like to understand it better.)

Yeah, I'll try to snap one on my next patrol this evening... With my luck I'll finally get those calm seas I've been praying for over the last 4 missions.

Now that I think about it, it does seem to me that there were times in the stock game where waves were large enough to submerge the tower and I don't ever recall seeing that reflection before. Hmmm....

Alright... well figures, I go out on my 5th patrol and the sea is smooth as glass.

However, I think I see what's causing the scope reflection in the rough seas and you can see it in calm reflections as well.

This image everything appears fine, right? The blue area is actually not my concern, the reflection of the scopes appears properly there whether raised or lowered. Its the red area, right at the waterline; here it looks fine in a light chop.

Notice in the next series of images you can see the reflection of the scopes at the waterline. Apparently, as the reflection image distorts in the water it reflects the inside of the 3D sub model and you get scope reflections in the water. Also notice in the reflection, at the top of the con no scope reflection; that's correct! The scopes are retracted, but you can spot them at the waterline.

All these images are taken in water smooth as glass... Now imagine playing at 100% and your out there on watch in rough seas with huge swells and you can see the giant gold poles flashing in your face as the waves wash over!

That's what I'm referring to.

Kpt. Lehmann 08-08-07 08:35 PM

Hmmm. I've never seen that before... or the poles rushing towards me face as you describe.

Will take a look at it once our current problems are resolved. Dunno if we can do anything about it though.

Thanks for the screenies.
