Need new graphics card
To run SH4 I'm going to need a new graphics card. Spending around $200 or less what would any of you suggest? Thanks
|
i had to do the same. the specifications for the game to run properly say you need at least a. NVDIA GEFORCE 7300. it cost me about £70. so hopefully you will get it cheaper than $200.

An excellent mid range DX9 card is the Nvidia GeForce 7600GT. I use this card, and SH4 plays very smoothly and with good fps. Current cost is about $130. :D

Hi rjmerit,
Welcome to the captains mess.. Please also read this thread. I am also getting a new card in 2 weeks.. I have a 7600GT now, but haven't got fantastic results. But I don't know the rest of your specs. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=119748 |
I have a Sapphire x1600 and it works fine for 120 Euro's.

im selling my agp x1650 pro its got DDR2 which seems to have higher core and mem speed than the DDR3 version. when i had it in it ran sh4 rather well with most settings just over the medium mark.
it was only in my system for 1 week and then swapped it for a 6800 ultra. im selling it for £65. if anyone is interested pm me. |
why 200?
|
Probably because he wants his money's worth?
200 can probably get you a 7600GT or a 7900GS if you look hard enough. As for ATi cards? Anything that has DDR3 memory, don't go with DDR2 type cards. |

For eur 259,00 you can get a Sparkle 8800GTS 320mb.. probably my new choice.. |

ddr2 boasts roughly 700ish mem and clock speed and ddr3 boasts about 500ish |
@Mooncatt = the issue is latency vs. bandwidth. DDR2 has a lower latency, but DDR3 has twice the bandwidth. so DDR 3 still is overall faster even though it's clocked less.

I suggest either an ATi X1950 Pro (priced as low as $150), ATi X1950 XT (some go as low as $200) or a branded gforce 7900 GS (~$200 for a factory overclocked version from Asus, for instance). That's the best $200 can offer. Stay away from 7600 or 8600 - they're rather expensive for the performance they offer (a 7600 is about $125 - compare that to a no-name 7900GS that costs about $160 - those $35 make a world of a difference). The 8600, even the best overclocked versions are terrible performers under DX9 and right now there are no DX10 native games - and there won't be any in the near future. Those 8600 loose to 7900s and x1950s like there's no tomorrow - even if they're about 25% more expensive. |
Thank you all. Looks like I got some good info to work on. $200 isn't necessarily the limit but I'm not a huge gamer so I don't want to spend too much. Again thanks for taking the time to respond.
