Fox Traffic Received

Hello Shipmates, I am currently patroling off the Philippines and received Fox Traffic about the imminent invasion of Borneo request assitance. My quesiton is, is this just for historical signifigance or is part of the game. Should you go? I was just curious about this. Is it like in SHIII. So far I have been off the coast for about 3 days now(Game time) and no even a wimper.

Haven't done so myself as I had objectives myself to achieve but you never know, "curiosity killed the cat" so to speak perhaps check it out

anytime i got one of those, i was either outta torpedoes and RTB, or on my way to/at a patrol area

Most of those messages are just 'color text' and not necessarly tied to in game events.

Typically the message mentions some place thousands of miles away and you couldent get there in time anyhow.

Most are just color, but the invasion of borneo is actually there, even if inaccurate.

Oddly, like the fall of Malaya, etc, the devs decided to use mostly Akizuki DDs. Odd since none were actually in service at that time (the eastasiacampaign.mis file has almost 60 akizukis in it----the total built was 12 as I recall, and by the end of 1942 only 3 were built. If it was just a variant of another DD it wouldn't be a big deal, but Akizuki is a "super DD," practically a CL, lol.

I've actually chased down one of those requests once and oddly found the area I was directed to go to sadly lacking in anything to sink.

So I am under the premise that these are just to add flavor to the game and are not in any way tied into the campaign / career mode.

tater 08-07-07 09:19 AM

Yeah, they are not TIED to the campaign, but a few are there. Borneo is one of those that are there.

Yes I noticed that too, I had to sink 3 of them in my first patrol in '41, even had a gunboat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean too.

I managed to sink the carrier Hiryu off of Midway after a FOX Traffic report saying the Task Force was in the area. By all means it was a bit of blind luck as there were no contact reports to give the general vicinity but after using Google to find some maps of the engagement, lo and behold the fleet was in the historical area. It was quite neat to be heading towards Midway afterwards and run in to the US Carrier fleet!

I hope to add a little more traffic that is tied to ULTRA to my campaign.

Example:
"29 JAN 1943 PROCEED TO LAT/LON: INTEL SUGGESTS JAP TF RENDEVOUS WITH FLEET OILERS NOON, 3 FEB AT THAT LOCATION."

That sort of thing. Some wild goose chases (right location, wrong date, right date, wrong location, etc) some real.

I got that message once but didn't act on it... had a full load of torp's just fresh from Mid Way so I was to far off :-? .

Shame if it's a hoax, would love to get a message like that and find the Jap's 1st 2nd or 3dr fleet at the grid with their pants down.:yep:
_All those sailor's on board the troop transports.. "OOOOOH".
_The battleships looking the other way.. "PFFFFFFF".

Man it's getting hot here

_The carriers with all those lovely plains sitting on deck getting refueled and refitted.. "OOOOH"

Think I'd better stop now.

I would assume that COMSUBPAC would never send a message like that to
every sub in the Pacific. Maybe some subs that were close enough to get there
on time would receive new orders. A news broadcast telling of a major event
happening somewhere would not contain orders for ships/sub to go there...

A "hoax" ? :hmm:

gonzlor 08-08-07 02:31 PM

What's the difference between Fox traffic and Pac traffic recieved?
