1.3, TM, cruise range and targets
So I'm driving an S boat and I check max range at current speed after leaving Manila harbor at 2/3rds. The answer I get is like 18,000 miles. In an S boat? Shouldn't it be like 10k at the most economical speed?
OK, whatever.... I'm cruising the Celebes sea and up towards Taiwan and back, and nary a bad guy contact. This is at 2048x TC typically... and every now and then I notice a note in the display that says "ship sighted", but it's gone by the time I can react to it. Now I'm assuming these are other-than-bad-guy contacts which is why the game did not drop out of TC? So where are the bad guys? I've done half a dozen or more patrols with SH4 and never have I gone this long without running into dozens of opportunities for fame and glory. Did 1.3 and/or TM change the frequency of contacts, or am I missing them by using a high TC? TIA JD |

I havent spent much time on the S boats, and Tmaru 1.3 is obsolete. Admittidly i need to give the Sboats some loving. Also I'd grab 1.4, its a bit improved from 1.3 and 1.3a

The range of the Gatos seems to be a bit too much for me, also, but I'm not complaining about the mod--it is awesome. I rarely (if ever) use S-boats. |

If you run TC at the high end you can lose out on contacts or find your boat very dead. That happened to me in SH3 and I believe with even higher TC in SH4 it'll be even worse for missing them. I now stay at a max of 512 in Sh3 and not much more than that in SH4. High TC once you run out of torpedos and ammo is good for getting back to base...... for the obvious reasons. ;)
