How to change sub skin?
Hi,
Im trying to add some text to the hull of my sub but it ain't working. I started to download a dds converter so i can convert the dds files to jpg and then edit them in photoshop. I re-convert them en put them back in the folder of the sub (data/submarines/*****) But when i try them ingame ,i see that nothing is changed at all. The submarines just look like they always looked. What have i done wrong or can someone explain to me how it must be done because i want to mess a bit whit the skins and add some things to it to personalize it :D Already thanks Baracoeda (ps: if this turns out to be a great noob question or just a stupid mistake of me, already srry :p |

When you open the edited dds file, can you see your changes ? If yes, there are 2 files with the hull skins T01 (early war) and T02 (late war). Did you change both ? Foo ;) |
yeah i changed both in porpoise class and went on a career and training mission with porpoise but never saw my edits!
I'm gonna try more tomorrow but if someone knows the solution that would be nice :smug: Or tell me how you guys do it? |

In your folder there are also T0?lr.dds files.. Do you have "use normal maps" enabled in option menu ? I use DXTBmp to convert DDS to BMP's. |
i have set everything to the highest lvl so i think that is on
But i think that i only changed t01 and t01_lr but not t02. But the training mission with porpoise class is early war and career starts in the beginning of the war so i should work? khoop echt dat het gaat lukken, alvast merci e foo |

Ok iv'e uploaded my dds file of t01 of porpoise class.
You can download it here So normally it should work he? Edit: what prog do you guys use to convert the dds so you can edit them? |
I use Photoshop and the Nvidia DDS Plug-in
found here http://developer.nvidia.com/object/p...s_plugins.html There are others but I prefer that as i use Photoshop at work as well, and sort of know it inside out ;) |

Ok now it works suddenly :p
I added "test" to the hull and now there is like 4 times test on the hull :o but it works that is the most important thing Ty for the help |
Just a note of caution since you said you were adding text. Text is a problem since the skin is one-sided and gets mirrored for the other side. I think it's the port side that gets mirrored so on that side the text will be backwards.

Nope

Is there a workaround for this?

Personally I limit myself to emblems that can be mirrored and nothing else for the time being, but yeah I wouldn’t mind having the option with two sides so I will keep snooping. I mean as you will quickly discover as you work up your experience with skinning in this sim is that the current setup doesn’t exactly mirror the texture accurately either. I don’t remember the user name, but the one who made the redfin skin visualized it well. The details on the fins were not applied the same way so the person had to reduce the details ending up with plain red fins. Is it “dive planes” they are called? I’m sorry but I’m fairly new to submarines as well. Anyway personally I’ve been drawing lines trying to figure out the exact cut lines so I know how to align certain overlapping elements, and, well, learning to play the game is still more fun so it’s a slow process. |
