I hate to say this but I gotta cheat...
I am in desperate need of an automatic deck gun and for some reason the one on the forums (I forget what its called) is not there. I need this becasue I can never get past destroyer screens with out making myself known because the subs go to slow underwater to catch up to the ships I want so I have to avoid the destroyers going about 3 knots so not to be picked up by the DD's and I loose the big targets because I'm going so slow.
For example: I cam across a task force with 2 battleships and 2 carriers in the middle so I wanted to go for them. I sank 3 destroyers in my first torpedo volley but then 2 more came so I sank them and i thought I would be done with the destroyers but no! about 7 or 8 more destroyers came into view and slaughtered me. There are just too many sometimes and I cant sink any with the deck gun if I dont want to loose the big ships :damn: So, basically, does anyone know of any good deck gun mods or could u tell me how to mod my deck gun to be an auto. Thanks. |

If you can sink 5 DDs without breaking a sweat, and want to take them out with a deck gun... perhaps you should up the diff level a hair ;)

Instead of steaming straight into the attack why not make an "end around" attack?
On sighting the enemy, slow down and keep your distance until you have his course and speed worked. Then turn away and increase speed, plot his predicted course and once out of sight turn parallel to his course and go to flank speed. When you are well ahead of him turn inwards to intercept his course. This should put you ahead of him. When you sight him again, go deep and quiet until the Destroyer screen passes over, then come up to PD quickly, fix your sights on the heavy units and blow them out of the water. Don't fight destroyers, it just ain't worth it. |
*points at above post* Indeed, unless it's only one single escort, ignore the escorts. Go for the juicy targets at once instead. And in fact, even when there IS only one escort, the other ships are usually armed and will begin zigzagging, making them harder to hit. Also you can't surface and sink them with the gun either, since they will shoot back.
Patience and ignore the escorts. Then sneak off. :sunny: |

Eventually... when/if you get bored with your uber-gun, you'll maybe want to invest some time in figuring out how others are successful in chasing down those targets.
