Does DW work under Linux?
Thinking of buying DW, but does anybody know DW will work under linux or not?
I searched on google and found out one guy reported DW could be installed via wine but wouldn't run under linux. Thanks! |

The problem is that every Linux Distro works differently with Wine (which is still in Beta stage) so even if someone reports it does work, it would not guarentee that it works on any other system DAB Ubuntu Linux 7.04 |
Well, if wine won't run it, WineX probably will. I'll see if anyone has it running.

I don't see it listed, but you can try it. I doubt you would have any problems running it.

I tried it a year ago, with the 0.9.29 version of wine if I'm not on a mistake, in Ubuntu Dapper Drake I couldn't install the 2nd CD.
I don't know with the last versions of Ubuntu and Wine because I'm not allowed to install them on my actual computer... :damn: I also tried using VMWare for intalling a Virtual Pc on Ubuntu with WinXP. In theory, that should work if You have a powerfull computer, but my copy of Windows didn't allow me to intall because was one of those than can be only installed on X computer and with VMWAre it didn't recognize it :damn::damn: Maybe with the last versions of Wine or Cedega or with this virtual machines... :hmm: |
There are a few problems with this, including the fact that WINE is not guaranteed to be forward-compatible. Start with the newest version and go backwards, and you may eventually find one that does a good job of it.
I've kept away from WINE for ages though. When it comes to VMWare you may have some luck with that, however only the 'vmware player' (I think it is) will have any kind of support for 3d acceleration. Without that you'll either probably get a slideshow when complex 3d elements are present. Periscope on subs, or a lot of places on the ffg and air platforms. (Or if it blacks out completely, it will be unplayable, since most of the interfaces are using 3d functionality anyway.) Right now, I'm migrating all my "non-gaming" to a linux box, but my 'powerbox' is still running windows for gaming purposes. I think I can avoid ever running Vista this way. (Now, if I can only get hardware that isn't price-elevated and crippled for the sake of AACS compliance, I'll be a happy camper. And if games don't require 'higher than xp'.) |
