AWAITING ORDERS CAPTAIN: Should we stay or should we go now...
The ol' question....
It's a foggy night, you've snuck into a harbor, put a few fish in a docked Tanker. She's taking water over the working deck, a sinking is inevitable (you hope) but you have not gotten credit for the sinking yet. You are loading more fish, but it will be awhile before they are ready. A destroyer is sitting idle waiting about 1500 yards off launching star shells and counting fish with thier spot light. Another DD is circling like a shark, blocking the straight. See Bungo Pete for more. Do you: A) Find a deep 'divet' in the harbor and wait till your fish are ready B) Make your escape before the clouds clear and the sun rises Bonus: Will the Tanker eventually sink, awarding you credit? The rest is up to you Captain! * Notes: v1.3, TM (trigger maru), and LOB (living, breathing ocean) installed Case in Point: http://www.compuglobalhypermeganet.t...0107tanker.jpg http://www.compuglobalhypermeganet.t...starshells.jpg |
I just did this myself not too long ago. I put a total of 6 fish into a tanker before she sank. Anything more then 3 fish is an investment, i had to make sure he went down.

Well... I am gonna say none of the above - if I have time to load another fish - I have time to pump a few shells into the beast as insurance and then haul the mail to a safe location.... Yes - I know its not the safest thing I could do - but the way I see it, the enemy already knows I am around so making a bit more noise wont matter. If I can help the bugger sink after a few shells - then the risk was worth it. If not - well - getting caught in a harbor is ugly no matter what. If I have gotten this far, and leave - I risked the crew's lives for what? Secure the deal, then run for home - but the fastest way to do it is a few more holes at the waterline.

Me no do harbor raids.
|
I do them, occasionaly. but only when the risk to my own boat is fairly low. Im pretty sure harbor raids was a far more common occurance in the pacific in compairison to that atlantic. Besides bowfins battleflag which sports a pier and a bus, heres a persiscope picture from the USS Seawolf.

Large docked tankers/freighters in stock SH IV need up to 6-7 torps before they sink. Not worth the trouble.
|
If I gots capital ships nearby ... especially sitting idle .. as in ducks, I take it out too! :know:
As for the DD circleing ... he'd be next. I won't surface in the sight of ships that might have a good chance of blowin me outta the water when my intent it to stay in the water. ;) |
I stay in DEEP water, that shallow stuff is for the birds....

How not to win
Get one tube loaded
Swing the boat around and head out Emergency surface at flank, man the deck gun and blast away Line up on the charging DD, dive and fire that torpedo.... Keep sheling the DD's bow to hoepfully destroy the Forward Gun Run like hell and steer to one side and get out to deep water :rotfl: Watch as they tear you apart...:dead: |
Make a stealthy escape, but hit her with a couple of stern launched torps on the way out.

none of the above as well. i'ld go after the DDs after all tubes are reloaded then finish off the tanker:ping:
