Save The USS Ling |
God damned greedy developers
I am really getting tired of these A hole developers wanting to develop land, even at the cost of a historical object like this. What the hell is wrong with these people. Do they not appreciate history? Condos suck anyways, the world does not need more of those monstrosities.
Sorry for my ire, but I am hearing more and more of this non-sense. I wish people had concern for principals than for money. |
Agried, and to be honest after visting her the other day I dont see why they want to build condos there. Buisnise disctrict.
|
The sad truth is that appreciating history does not make (much) money. To paraphrase my wife's history teacher: "If you want to understand why anything happens, follow the money".
That said, I hope the Ling will find a permanent home. I look around the Houston, TX, area and see housing and malls go up in a matter of weeks and shake my head - how does the economy support it??? Back to WW2 related stuff, though not subs: Anyone ever visiting Houston should see the San Jacinto battlefield monument and the USS Texas battleship on exhibit there. Well worth the experience. I totally agree! Here in NY, we face a similar dilemma, although not with a military relic. Two historical amusement parks, Coney Island (wich I'm sure everyone has heard of), and Playland, wich is in Rye, NY on the Long Island Sound are both in danger of becoming condos. Dose no one respect history and tradition, or is everything about the almighty dollar? F that! Where dose it end? |
The sad truth is, there are alot of people in this world who dont have an understanding, interest, nor care in history. There are people in this country who
- do not know what july 4th is about other then beer and fireworks. - when the civil war was or why it was fought - what war nazi's were fought against in. the list goes on. It truly is sad. My own spouse is guilty of all of the above. "I just don't get this history stuff" she tells me. *sigh* I schitt you not, one 4th of july, i had to print out an entire phamplet for her and her family and closest friends becuase NONE of them knew what the 4th of july is really about. Suffice to say, the USS Ling's in great peril. Historical ignorance is the becoming the norm from what ive seen in my own daily life with the people around me. |
As I remember the Ling got some sort of award for being a historic ship. With that how can they kick her out? :nope:

An alternative
This may well be an opportunity hidden.
Liberty National Park is not far down stream. There are a number of wharves and docks there. Placing a Submarine exhibit there might be just the thing and the numbers of tourist flocking through could financially support the Museum. On the other hand I have seen time and time again where these kind of things are simply dumped... Very unique displays I could see an entire area in Liberty park housing this... Probably and uphill battle, but they do have a lot of empty space that needs filling.. :smug: |
Wouldn't some of the golf courses make for better condo devolpment.
It's Very sad that a part of national heritage is in the way of the dollar bill. :nope: |
Greedy bastards

They donīt appreciate history, they donīt appreciate anything. This people have no respect for nothing, except the Dollar bill. If they could, they would build condos at Auschwitz or over the USS Arizona Memorial. You can find this bunch of greedy bastards all over this planet. Its a global problem. |
People who fail to apprecaite the past are doomed to a repetative future.

Couldent the boat simply be relocated ?

Well it will cost money to scuttle it as well. I find it hard to belive they would just scrap it. Dont let the anti capitolist tilt cloud your judgment. Surely there is a comprimise. |
Damn....she is a beautiful boat!!!! I'm sure she will find a home. Unchecked development is a very bad problem. They come, they build, they disappear with the profits....no one really checks on anything and permits to build are just a joke.
