[rel] Instant Radio
An enhancement, or alternative, to the wonderful, scripted stations provided by Tedhealy and CaptainCox. Respect to both.
It’s a development of the “random tracks” idea already built-in to the SH IV radio. I separated out the individual tracks including the dedications and requests from G.I. Jill leading into each track from 55 editions of the AFR "G.I. Jive" programmes The result is 221 individually introduced war-time radio tracks, giving around 12 hours of “radio”. When you put the tracks into a radio station folder - the station's root file ( not the “events.ini” folder, but the folder which bears the station name ) they act as randomised tracks, but the links from G.I. Jill make it sound like a continuous radio broadcast, rather than simply a series of old musictracks. You can drop the tracks into existing radio station folders, where they will play as random tracks between the scripted broadcasts: Or you can make them into a station in their own right, by creating a G.I. Jive folder Copy / extract the tracks into it and edit your radio.ini file to include it as a station. When you tune-in to the station in-game, it will randomise the tracks in the folder. For full details of how to set up a new radio station in SH IV and how to edit the radio.ini file, please refer to Tedhealy’s posts: See thread: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=109256 Download "G.I. Jive" at http://sh.xset.co.uk On the same download site you'll also find: Big Band 01and Band 02 - Each folder contains 48 x 12 to 15 minute self-contained Big Band broadcasts ( around 10 to 12 hours of radio per folder) 5 Minute Mysteries - A series of 48 x 3 to 4 –minute mystery playlets where the listener has to deduce whodunit. Laugh Club - 63 x 3 to 4 minute self-contained comedy shorts, featuring Lou Holtz and containing some of the worst jokes ever!!!! Treasury Star Parade - 71, self-contained 15-minute programmes, produced by the U.S. Treasury Dept. These are my personal favourites. Most are pure propaganda, designed to boost American morale, stiffen national resolve and sell War Bonds. They offer a unique and superb insight into the mentality of the U.S. during WW II DinahShore - 15 x 15 – minute radio programmes featuring one of the War-time favourites, presented by Mumm deodorant. Guest Star - 9 x 15 – minute programmes featuring a different star in each edition. They are all designed to be used in the same way as the “G.I. Jive” material, either as “random tracks” in radio station folders, or as radio stations in their own right. Alternatively, you can drop the tracks into your Program Files/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific/Data/Sound/Gramophone folder; but to avoid hearing the same tracks in the same order every time, you’ll need a randomiser. I believe jimimadrid has written one. See thread: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=111597 I’ve cleaned up each track as much as possible without spending hours on each; removed a number of anachronisms so it doesn’t matter too much when during the war you listen to them – my apologies for those which remain - and I’ve levelled/normalised the audio to 96.5 dB. You might have to adjust your in-game sound settings to get the best balance. All tracks are mono mp3s, at 16kbps which minimises file-size. To the best of my knowledge, the material is not copyright and has been sourced entirely from free OTR sites which offer similar assurances. |

That's a whole lot of labor (labour?) you put into this. Much appreciated!
