S Class Starboard prop not spinning?
has anyone seen this before...
first time in the S class. Do a few dives, i notice that after surfacing the number 2 engine isnt spinning. no damage. when i submerge they'll change it over to electric and they will both turn, upon surfacing, they'll pause change it back over, but the other prop wont spin.... normal? any ideas? |
strange... i set it to flank, ran it for about an hour (game time) and it came on.
|
When charging the batteries one prop will be disengaged. :know:
|
sweet! how long historically does it take to change over?
|
when the bats are recharged fully it'll come back on.

Just like SH3. I think with the fleet boats, and 4 engines, that it should keep turning, but without 4 engines driving your speed might be slower. I say "might", because the engines actually drove the generators which in turn drove the props or charged the batteries; so the boat might still have been as fast, but with more time required to recharge.
I have one question: in SH3 you could manually change from "Recharge" to "Cruise" mode if you needed the extra speed. Can you do that in SH4? |

Funny thing is the batteries will recharge at the same rate regardless of ships speed. Indeed they will even charge with the engines cut off :o . You still have to be in re-charge mode. I would think that a motor running at flank would charge the batts a lot faster than one at idle (shrug). |
I think the batteries have their own recharge rate curve. It was dependent more on the battery technology of the time. A nearly dead battery could except more charge than a slightly depleted one. As the batteries charge, the rate slows.

<edit> Damn my eyes! I was thinking of SH4 - sorry guys. |

If so good catch by the devs  |
From what I understand they take an engine off the main shaft using a clutch and gear it so it drives an electrical motor in reverse (turning it into a generator), and using that engine driving the electric motor to charge the batteries. And because it is taken off the driveshaft the speed of the engine will not affect the speed of the ship (except for the fact its driving the electric motor and not the ship, and hence you will have less speed), so the engine telegraph will not affect that engine's speed.
Though I could be wrong. |
