[REL] Small Merchant CTD fix

I thought I would make a [REL] of Jace11's fix for the Taihosan Maru CTD. I noticed the problem, Jace bailed us out with the solution. This mod simply replaces the problem 1.2/1.3 Taihosan files with the original 1.0 files that did not exhibit the CTD behavior.

This CTD is ALWAYS possible in the game (1.2 and 1.3), but is rarely seen unless the Small Modern Composite Merchant (Taihosan Maru) has ammo as a cargo (internal/external), in which case the CTD happens virtually 100% of the time the ship is destroyed.

I consider this an obligatory mod, unless you are fond of CTDs randomly happening if you hit this ship with a weapon. :)

Good job figuring out the issue tater

All I did was CTD and narrow it to that ship, Jace11 fixed it.

Cheers for this little fix guys!:yep: I know you dug hard and deep to find it.

Oops! Conflict with the "Natural Sinking Mechanics" MOD by Werner Sobe

Would it be possible to post the tweak...please. Then one could put it in manually. Or even better Werner Sobe could probably incorporate it in to hes mod...if he wants of course.

Cheers!

We also need to make sure nematode's HP fix (modded in by mav87) is in there so a taihosan doesn't stop a convoy...

Version 2.0... I'll look into it.

Er, that was fixed in the 1.3 patch, right?

Bando 07-20-07 11:03 PM

Yes it is LukeFF, but the fix for the Taihosan is to import files from 1.0 back into 1.3, hence the Taihosan does not have the Nematode fix in it.

Ok hello again...

Right, the Taihosan fix simply replaces 1.3 versions of NKSCS_Taihosan.dat and NKSCS_Taihosan.zon with the two files from version 1.0.

You should also know, I did not test replacing each on their own, so if someone could do that, that would be great.

This fix replaces the new damage model - which appears to have a bug that causes CTD with the old 1.0.

So while you can damage and sink the Taihosan now, you will find the superstructure and masts are not destructable - an unfortunate side-effect.

The ship engine horsepower mod is fixed by changes to the NKSCS_Taihosan.sim file which simply gives the engine more power, and as I haven't touched that, it should be fine.. (the NKSCS_Taihosan.sim is a 1.3 patch file).

Whereas, if you are using the realistic sinking mod of Werner, you MAY need to increase the hitpoints of the Taihosan by editing the 1.0 version of the zon file.

I am afraid I don't have time to test much at the moment - work etc, so if someone wants to see if either the zon or the dat from version 1.0 will fix it on its own, be my guest.. I just took both as it looked like a 3D model / damage problem.

tater 07-21-07 11:12 AM

You are right regarding the nematode fix. For some reason I thought it messed with the zon file.

tater 07-21-07 11:29 AM

Just tried it with only the zon and the CTD is gone.

Jace11 07-21-07 11:41 AM

good work tater...

Did you split the ship in two and see that weird extended internal damage model..?

If that is gone too, then it just the zon required..

tater 07-21-07 11:43 AM

I never saw it split in two with limited testing just now.

I made a 2.0 release:

Tried again with just the zon. got it to split, this time i aimed 6 at the aft hold.

Split normally!
