Volumetric fog in office?
I don't have a super-duper computer that can handle volumetric fog, so I've never really seen it other than from screenies. (Looks cool, though.) But I know it's a FPS killer. My question is, why is the office that way...and could it possibly be the steam from the coffee cup that is enabled somehow or rendered as volumetric fog....?
Jus' curious. Thanks... :) |
I have fog enabled and i have a pentium 2.4 , 1gig ram , ati X800 pro graphics card . 2xAA , 2 x AF , and i get about 18fps in fog . 32fps without fog . I think its acceptable . Are your specs similar .

I have an AMD 2.19, 2 GB of RAM and a GeForce 7800GS and I have the fog turned on. In fact I use the default "High" graphic setting, and I get 25-30 and up frame rates! You might try shutting down the explorer.exe process when in the game. That kills all background processes.

Guys, I'm not talking about the fog per se like out on the ocean, I'm wondering if volumetric fog is used for the steam from the coffee cup in the office and that's why so many people experience a FPS hit.... :)

You might be experiencing what I have seen in 1.3 is “environmental effects” which causes smoke (or what ever you want to call it) cones down from the lights as if you were in a bar with everyone smoking.
I turned this feature off and it went away. Turned it back on because it made for some nice effects out on the sea. |
Thanks!

Is the office 'haze' back in 1.3, then? That was one gripe I had about 1.1/1.2 - office looked all...I dunno...too high gamma or something, it seemed all washed out compared to the stock game with the 'haze' in it.
That'd be VERY cool if so... EDIT: Nope, just checked, still gone. Whatabummer |
