Radar question.....oh yes

Is there any way I can get a report on air contacts only? When I play with map contacts on this isnt a problem, but playing without I have no way of knowing where it is after the initial report. I need a seperate screen for SD radar.

In mixed groups of air and surface its a nightmare trying to distinguish between the two from just one report.

Or am I just too noob?

That is indeed hard.

At the very least, the message reported to you should say Air contact or SD contact or something to distinguish the contact as a plane. That's all I need to pull the plug and head deep. What makes things even worse is when you have SD and SJ and all you get is a report saying radar contact. Ok, what kind or at least tell me from which radar? Do planes return a contact on the ppi or a-scope?

Same problem for me... The radar message is useless in this way... Crash Dive or Man the deck gun ? :damn:
I partially solve this problem by turning off the surface radars during daytime, this way any contact report sure is airborne.... I turn them on during night, since I've not met yet any japanese fighter/bomber with an onboard radar (the nightly surface navigation was a nightmare in SH3...).
Well, is there any way to mod the stock message without a patch ?

Well, in reality the SD only reported that there was something flying somewhere close, that's all. If you only have SD, any radar contact is a cue to dive.

If you have both radars, then make a sweep on the SJ - if no contacts are reported than you'd best dive while there's no bomb coming for you.
