Repeated saves crashing

Greets,

Running home to my saved campaign (I found two juicy tankers and some heavy cargos)... to be dissapointed because all of the 8 saves I have dune during yesterday's evening will get me a CTD. The only one working is my 'Patrol start' right off the base of Pearl harbour.

This is the 2nd time it has happened to me (got the game a week ago) and I noticed others here suffering from reload crashes. (Rebooting didn't work, the only mod I am using right now is Beery's camera mod... since the crash happens only at a 'certain point' I don't think it's related to a mod.)

This is the error message I get:
Code:

AppName: sh4.exe    AppVer: 1.2.0.0    ModName: messagenet.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0    Offset: 00001e9c

Has anyone come up with a solution for this? If not, it looks like I will be relegated to 'quick missions'

[/soapbox]

What are the conditions you are saving in? I have had no problems with that particular mod up to this point.

Saving near units and also saving while submerged can be problematic.

Also a thread related to your error message, have a look: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...aving+problems

I've used the same 'save' procedures in both SH3 and SH4 hundreds of times with no issues. I always save on the surface and at the map station. I rotate the same two files about every five minutes. In other words, I'll save to TDK1, then to TDK2 and then back to TDK1 again. If I'm forced to save while submerged, I have a save called 'Submerged', and I know to save to either TDK1 or TDK 2 as soon as I'm on the surface.

I have yet to have any problems saving this way, and I'm now over 70 hours into SH4.

Thanks guys,

I read about the 'submerged' thing before and purposedly(sp?) did saves in different situations (the saves range from day one to day four). I also had no damage. I thought it might be disk space, but I have well over 12 gigs free on that drive.

Did you check out the thread related to you error message, a few posts down there is reference to that error.

I just did, thanks :)

Msn service is disabled, the only thing I see now that I might have other units around... am off to try to run the game 5 minutes, then load it.

Cheers,

according to my experience in SH3 and SH4 there are no big issues linked to game saves even if you are submerged or in action or close to action.

the only thing i noticed is that you must save progressively and never overwrite an existing save

according to this i save a patrol 20 or 25 times but never overwriting existing files (i start from 1 to 20 or 25)

in this way i never had a CTD reloading a game,

on the contrary each time i tryied to overwrite an existing file i always had a CTD later during reloading

i do not know if anyone had the same experience

ciaociao

Same here, if you use the paranoia from SH3 you will be fine.:rotfl:I have yet to have a savegame crash since I started doing this.

I always overwrite, no probs.

Very strange problem - I save often and will overwrite a save until I have a new situation that requires a new name (ie convoy or task force). I start with a destination save and overwrite the file until a new action. I have saved even when I was in serious trouble - I hate to admit it but an island jumped out in front of me once and I had serious hull damage, but I was not sunk because I was stuck on the island bow down to the conning tower. I saved there, went back to an earlier save. Deleted the save where I struck the island and this time stayed awake to miss the island. I have never had any problems with the save feature. Knock on wood. Damn no wood on this boat.

No matter what I tried yesterday... it failed to load the above savegames. I finaly screamed 'F**K THIS' and went for a new campaign after installing RUB.

One good side of this illustrious defeat was that I had to tell my better half that i couldn't stop playing till i got safely 'home' and that no i couldn't come down to watch 'Dr house' with her.

Conclusion? No nookie but am still sitting very tired in the office today ;)

Sucks to be you right now :yep: You'll get over it I am sure.

Let us know how the new campaign goes.

No matter what others say here, not overwriting saves fixed this very same problem for me and several others. And it's easy to try.

Did you by any chance add that mod while at sea? That will most definately cause a CTD and you'd lose all saves. The only thing tho that throws off that assumption tho is you being able to run the " 'Patrol start' right off the base of Pearl harbour".

Saintaw 07-05-07 02:00 AM

I tried the incremental save with the new RUB campaign: Still have a crash as soon as I have sunk something i think... the saves proior to any action are working, but as soon as I've 'seen some' ... it goes for the CTD.

I'll try a complete uninstall / reinstall this week end...
