Glaswegian Understatement

This guy (John Smeaton) is great, it's video of an interview with one of the Glasgow Airport workers involved with Saturday's security alert. Warning: some people might need subtitles :O)

About 20 secs in: "...the man then attacked the policeman, I thought 'That's not right'..."

Then about a minute and ten in: "...what's the score, y'know, we've got to go and get this sorted...'

They do not call their football team for no reason: "Rangers"

"Listen Rangers, tonights objective is this stadium. We go in first and flatten the other team. Our fans will silence the audience on all stands while we clean block for bloack and secure it. When the stadium is ours and the other team is no more and our fans hold all ground, we just need to flatten the referee and the two assistants anymore, then raise our flag, and then we are the last getting out. Rangers, ho!"

I like the way he refered to one of the bombers as "the gentleman". Bet he didn't use that phrase later, down the pub.:D

One of the comments on that site is priceless

"Skirting round all the serious issues……imagine the humiliation of waking up Saturday morning ready to strike a blow against the Western World, and ending up face doon on the pavement getting yer heid kicked in by a vigilante baggage handler. Superb".

I think the guy deserves a medal:up:

I'm sure he'll get one. I love some of the quotes the media got from him
  • After he saw the police grappling with one of the attackers, he thought:
“ This isney happnin! You're no hitting the Polis mate, there's nae chance.[2]
  • Describing his own actions:
“ So I ran straight towards the guy, we're all trying to get a kick-in at him, take a boot to subdue the guy.[2]
  • Asked by ITV News what his message to terrorists was, he said:
“ Glasgow doesn't accept this. This is Glasgow; we'll set about ye.[3]

He deserves all the recognition and plaudits that come his way :yep: It's not often a member of the public come to the aide of the law enforcement agencies when witnessing acts of violence.
