Kilo to the pole

Ok heres a good challenge, a non nuclear submarine called the kilo will be travelling under the ice to the north pole and back.

i plan for the trip to take 2 weeks as the diesel will be slow very painfully slow alot slower than my akula, but i hope i can make it all the way to the pole and back.

The big thick red line is the course i intent to take, it will be done in a project 636 kilo the improved versions, top speed of 20knots submerged will be at about 8 knots though and a diving depth of 330 meters.

Hope to complete it by august 3rd will keep posted :D

It shouldn't be a problem. You get a free battery and O2 recharge every 800 nm. If there were a world map as in the SH series, it would be a pretty cool feat.

You do?!:o

Oh, and good luck, Kaptain! I see you're beginning to like the kilo...

Yes, you do. The map field is only 800 sq. nm. After that, you have to load a new map. Your batteries and oxygen are topped off each time.

Gotta watch "72 Meters"/"72 метра" again....:|\\
Good luck, Kapitan!
Report when you get back!:yep:

Also as far as I know you can't get to the pole. You can get as far as to 88.3 latitude.
But let's call it pole ! Good luck !

If you need any oxygen candles, I can get you some cheap. Brand new, never been used. 100% Royal Navy.

:arrgh!:

I don't think that the families of the two RN sailors who were tragically killed would find this very amusing!

Only problem is in high sea states boats still move with the wave action even if surfaced though the ice. Kinda hard to snorkel like that even when surfaced.

If I had more free time I'd race ya Kapitan! :arrgh!:

DBF!

Not far off the pole now im running well late will get the pictures up when im done but the ice is getting thicker and the lill submarine finding it harder to surface and theres not alot of polyna around.

if it becomes too thick on the next surface in about 6 hours time roughly then im going to have to run back battery is down now to 45%

Oberon 06-28-07 02:15 PM

Just make sure you don't get run over by an aircraft carrier whilst snorkeling ;)

GakunGak 06-28-07 02:18 PM

Can you launch a fish and set it to shallow so she could explode and make a hole for ya?

Dr.Sid 06-28-07 04:35 PM

Unfortunately you can't. Ice field is static. You can't change it. You can surface when ice is thin enough and special object 'pieces of broken ice' is generated on your position. But there is no actual hole in the ice.

It would be quite a chalenge to make ice really breakable.

Kapitan 06-29-07 12:45 AM

If you dont have 1.04 installed push Shift + I twice it gives you the ice field map including the polyna locations.
