Hmmmmm so the measure of sentencing someone to death for his books shouldn't have put the islamic societies at odds with british statemen and officials?

IIRC the Fatwa was something like "shoot on sight" or "kill him wherever you find him", meaning any muslim was asked to kill Rushdie even in UK territory :hmm: Aside from any other consideration (Moral, religious...), that's pure and simply an intromision in International Laws system, as one state is incitating to kill against the laws enforced in the territory of another. More or less something similar as if the UK government asked any british residents in Iran to burn books of Quran :dead:

Henryk Broder, I mentioned him in earlier threads, has been awarded a publication or journalism award for his stand against Islam just days ago. While Muhammedans are deepoly offended as usual, many reasonable and tolerant Germans voiced their concerns about this incompetent decison and the risks of provocing a most peaceful religion to turn violant, and the hindering this lack of tolerance means for the integration of those who have refused to integrate since three generations.

So what? Islam is bad, they are crazy and burn images of Western leaders and figures. But Danes are good, cause burning an image of Muhammed is constructive and creating another point of contention is just going to improve things.

I think Islamic cultures that go crazy over these events are completely irrational, but us doing the same thing back is hardly the answer. If you have a Lion in your house you don't poke him in the eye and taunt him. Theres the act of not being apologists and then theres unnecessesary provocation.

The only solution is to stop kissing up to them and fight if that is what they want.

Provocation? That inlcudes a sufficiently great ammount of insult, and intention.

The British have every right there is to act as British, in the british nation, on the rbitish isles, in the european realm and the Christian occident, according to british laws, rules, habits and traditions.

and if somebody is insulted by that, because of a hysteric row of ver a book that back then almost none of the hysterics has reed himself, so that he knows what he was yelling about, then thios does not mean the the feeling of being insulted is justified and the provocation fulfilles the above condtions: it could also mean that the offended is a hyper-sensitive narcissistic neurotic person who has no balance and no reason.

that is one of the problems with the mindset that Islam is teaching and causing: on the one hand it says that one is peaceful as long as not being attacked, on the other hand the threshold level beyond which tolerance turns into hysteria and aggression is so ridiculously low that every move of the small finger, every syllable, ever blink with your eyelid already makes it yell: "I'm under attack, this gesture, this syllable, this blinking, is done in a way that Muhammad has not taught! Offense! Shame! Revenge! How dare you to attack us so intolerantly!"

What is next, Broder asks? Forbidding pork meat in europe? no more school foir gilrs? No lessons in sport and swimming? what must we not do anymore to make islam stop feeling insulted?

I hope it is a derserving honor, and not just given out because of the current political climate.

I think Pasternak with "Dr. Zhivago" is totally undeserving of the honors won, and benefited greatly from when it was released. I agree with Nabokov when he said something like it was the worst book ever written in any language.
