Renown Points
Hello everyone
I am new to subsims and I like SH3 very much. How are the renown points worked out? Is it a % of the total tonnage or do each type of ship have a set points value? I have been on a few missions where I have sunk mostly destroyers and had less ponits than if I have sunk mostly cargo ships? Also I have the game straight from the box what should i patch it up to? Thank you |
Welcome to the forums.
Renown is awarded according to a set value, thus a warship of 5000 tons is worth more points than a freighter of 5000. (There is a list of renown points floating around the forums somewhere.) Also, your level of realism affects the renown, so playing at lower realism gives you less renown for sunk ships. Patch to version 1.4b if it's not already at that level out of the box,and start looking at the supermods right away as they really make the game shine. (GWX is my personal favourite.) |
Hi,
at first: Welcome to the board. The renown points are measured by a few things. I don't know whether the total patrol tonnage counts or every ship for itself, which would include it's type. Some things you get renown for are: - sinking enemy ships - reaching your patrol area - patrolling your patrol area (for 24h) - docking your boat at your home base, which means that you have to get into a 30km radius of this base and end your patrol there (It's more fun to get your boat into the dock/bunker yourself though ;)) But you can also lose renown for sinking neutral or friendly :o ships for example. Your other question: You should definitely patch the game up to version 1.4b. After doing that there are many cool and free mods you can download and use. GWX would be a good start ;). It makes a whole new (and better) game out of SH3. The "6_dials_nygm22" mod is really stylish and practical too, wouldn't miss that one. At best you look into the mods section of the board. So far, have fun :sunny: EDIT: Too slow :> The difficulty settings are quite important to the renown earned though. |
Welcome
like they said: you should really try GWX (put patch the stock version first!) and then patch GWX too. More important than how much renown is: how much trouble for how much renown?:D For example: many don't find small ships like tug boats, small merchants and such worth a torpedo, and save their torps for the big targets (if they can find any). But that's something you have to decide and experience for your own. Good hunting!! |
Thank you for your help.
I have tried some of the mods for the torps and smoke and they are kool. thank's again. |
Shmidt welcome to the addiction!
Im presuming you have gone through a carrer in the stock game, it's the best way to know what you gain before you try any supermod. 1.4 is the current patch, there where different releases of the game (dvd-d/l) make sure you obtain the right one. When you have a little time take a look at the information in the Community manual, use the list, search function usually brings you to the page or at least a list. |
I've noticed that GWX changes some of the tonnages of merchants. Does GWX change renown too? And what about the new ships?

welcome, matey!:up::up:

You get like 10,000 points for sinking a hospital ship, and a lot of attention from FdU/BdU.

Welcome aboard this nest of ruffians.
Don't sink, neutrals, hospitals or our own ships. Sink as many ships as you can and stay out of shallow water. GWX is the way to go, but you may want to practice a bit with the stock version. Good hunting |

Is there a list for all the merchants in GWX or should I guess them from the WIKI list?
