The Witching Hour

Convoy in sight, heading straight for me. I have a nice firing plan that will zap a large freighter and a Fiji light cruiser.

At 23:59 I fire 4 tubes.
At 00:00 Convoy changes course from 030 to 360.
One torp hits a passenger freighter (those things don't know how to sink) the other torps miss. :damn:

Convoys change course at cardinal times. At midnight for sure. Maybe at sunrise or 0600 and other such times. GRRR.

Something to think about when planning an attack.

Ever notice that we never figure these things out until AFTER the fish have left the tubes?

Yes! After, later, with hindsight,

To add to the experience: 3 destroyers came after me. One of the buggers stayed on top of me accelerating and stopping engines, I guess, marking the spot. Two of his buddies followed each other dropping DCs. I stayed quiet as an entombed mummy. Thet finally gave up and went of for their steak and kindney pie.

naturally, we're stupid that way:D

It's very distraughtening (is that a word?) to see the big fat tanker you're planning to sink suddenly turn towards you and come straight for you.:damn:

they also change course after having travelled a specific distance. I don't know whether they do both, that is to say whether one convoy can change course at both instances.
I'm currently shadowing a convoy that has lost it's juiciest target but still has some fat merchants left for next evening so I'll try to figure it out:up:

I'm sure mr. BigBoyWooly can enlighten us. but maybe he shouldn't because of metagame thinking being bad :nope:

Simple solution: fire at 310m. >.>

It's been said that, "Hindsight's always 20/20" but I'm pretty sure whoever said that didn't have a half-dozen pints of beer in him.

But it always seems to me that my lessons aren't learned without copious amounts of liquid mental assistance.

At least they left you alone. I hope they choke on dinner.:D

Time permitting it is a good thing to shadow a convoy for a day (at least half a day) before making an attack.
