My news is better than your news, etc
Given the polemical nature of some of the discussions here, and rampant shooting of messengers, here's a ranking of accountability and transparency of certain news outlets

Shame they don't list the major English papers.
BBC for me, good on em! |
Check the top o' the list, boyo!
|
What? FoxNews isn't in the negatives? Blasphemy! :rotfl:
|
No Aussie papers.
But then again I suppose the Herald Sun is just another Newscorp company while The Age is Fairfax. Hehe and our big cable news company Sky is listed as bad! :shifty: |
The Gaurdian is my paper of choice:up:
|
I read The Gruniard on the web daily, looking forward to getting it in print back at home
|
I'm a BBC reader myself. Always thought they'd be rated somewhere up there, good on them indeed :)

I don't see how they can place CNN below FoxNews. I mean CNN is just opportunistic and tends to swing with the political winds, but they at least mention real facts most of the time. Fox news is intent of spreading a certain agenda and slants every story it can the same way. Lou Dobbs Tonight might be particularly partisan but at least it isnt presented as legit news coverage. Fox just says what it says like its the god's truth... once its gone through the Rupert Murdoch filtering process of course.

What, no Jihad Watch? :hmm:

One should not read too much into that analysis and listing of papers. The outcome of such projects is predetermined by the criterions of those who conduct it. The only way to reduce the danger of getting fooled and misled by narrow perspectives is to increase the diversity of the sources you read, and try to cover the specrtum from one side to the other. that'S why I skim at least the front pages of over one dozen papers from Germany, Britain and the US, and if a story interests me I add even more specific and international sources from France (not many in English they have), Russia, Israel etc. Try to read both what you like and what you don't like in opinion on an issue. Don'T stay with only that that you would like to hear - you become a narrow-minded idiot by that only. |

I guess 'The Sun' was so low it didn't even show up on the chart...in fact, perhaps it's somewhere at the bottom of this page...or on the floor below the computer? :hmm:

Skybird is totally right. You can't rely on your preferred source for information, because a lefty might scoff at Foxnews but he is just as guilty of narrowmindedness as the FoxNews zealot because he allows a narrow stream of information to characterize his world view. That I diversify my sources is why I'm able to articulate why FoxNews is crap.:p Its also why I'm able to notice when my preferred source does the same thing as the one I scoff at. That said its harder to be aware and sometimes you just want to not care.
Critical thinking is the key really. Analyse and accept what can be proved, everything is permissible. Skybird really is a treasure around here. He reminds us of what we REALLY should be saying sometimes. Cheers mate |
