Hey,

I have been a fan of Silent Hunter II, and having now purchased SH4 I am looking forward to installing it (and the patches) tonight and taking my boat out of harbour for the first time.

As a matter of interest, however, I was wondering whether there were any plans for mods that would perhaps highlight the participation of the Royal Navy Submarine Service in the Pacific war. Although they participated less than their US counterparts, they were nevertheless there, according to the Wikipedia article on the submarine war in the Pacific:

"submarines operating out of Trincomalee and Australia were a constant threat to Japanese shipping passing through the Malacca Straits,"

Although the Royal Navy obviously featured largely in Silent Hunter III due to its geographic location, there seems to be little reference to the UK Silent Service's participation in the war in either theatre. I personally would be interested in seeing a few missions based around the participation of this different submarine service.

Any thoughts?

It is possible but it would take some time to create it.
I guess we will have it one day...

Don't forget that to do it properly you would have to make completely new exteriors, completely new compartments, new uniforms for the crew (probably the easiest part), a complete new set of medals and the hardest, hire a crew of voice actors to add all British voices. Would have been much easier with something simple like SH1. All in all a lot of work.

Steve is right, although I think we could find enough British voices on the forum. To bring in the Brits and the Dutch would be a formidable task. This has to be one for SH5, I hope.

British submarine warfare doctrine was very different from the other major powers, while the Dutch started the war with German submarines and finished it with British ones.

Personally I would love to see British subs in the game but to do them justice is probably beyond any feasible Mod. It will take a new game.
