[TEC] Keeping the recognition manual on the last viewed page

There's been a lot of disappointment voiced over the fact that apparently the devs removed the ability to look at the last page viewed in the recognition manual. Well, it turns out, the feature is still there! Tonight while patrollilng when I moved my mouse cursor to the space below the TDC, I saw a tooltip box pop up that said "Recognition Manual." Sure enough, clicking on the space opened up the manual, just like in SH3. What's more, you can flip to a certain page in the manual and close the manual in the same way you opened it, and viola! The manual will open back to that page when you click on the space below the TDC.

Now, the only thing left to do is to edit the Menu_1024_768 file to get part of the manual showing up on the screen at all times. I tried doing this myself but had no luck with it. It's probably the same line of text that is used for the recognition manual in SH3. Anyone here want to try to find that line, so that we can all edit it to our own liking?

Well done!

Nice find LukeFF.
Here's a dumb question for ya, though. I can't see that tooltip popping up anywhere, and don't have SHIII for reference. Can you please 'zero in' on exactly where it is on the screen ?
Thanks

Same here - this would be great, but I can't find such a tool tip anywhere on my screen (tried attack scope and TBT screen so far). When I use the button RFB put on the toolbar at the botton, it works just like the "N" key does - i.e., the book closes, and opens back to the correct section it was on (e.g., Merchants) but not the same page - you still have to flip through the pages of merchants till you get back to the same one you were viewing.

Were you finding this in the stock game, or in some modded version? (I'm running RFB 1.28 and various other mods, so maybe that's why I'm not seeing it?)

I see what you mean LukeFF.
This is just great!!!!!!

To everyone:
Open your recman, move your mouse to the left edge of the screen and LeftClick, the recman will be gone. The TDC dials are still useable, no ghost from the recman and later, when you move your mouse to the same spot, just LC and it'll be there on your last viewed page.

As I said, LukeFF, a great find, thanks a lot:D

Gonna test it right away. Would be great:D

later that day: No sorry - couldn't do it. Manual closes with a click on the left border. But remained closed when clicking there again. I can only open it again with 'n' or clicking that icon.

Alright, for those who are having trouble finding this feature, here's a screenshot I just took, at the TBT screen:

When you move your mouse over the relevant area the mouse cursor will increase in size and the tooltip text will pop up. I do run RFB, but I don't think that has any sort of effect on what's happening here. Also note, I am running the game at 1600x1200 resolution, so the exact spot you find the tooltip popup may vary.

Good one, I grant you this. Tried it again with 1600x1200 and I see the light! (not really - but almost). Now I ask myself: Why not with 1024x768?

Allright. It seems to work with 1280x960 and above. To whom it may concern.

Brigs 06-13-07 05:13 PM

Excellent...found it with the help of the screenshot.
No problem with RFB at 1152x864.

It's also great to see that you can leave the original screen, go to other areas of the boat (maps, etc), and when you go back it still opens up to the page where you left it.

 Great find  Used it tonight.

Excellent find - wish it worked in 1024x768, but I never could get that to work, even after going back to the stock manual (I'd been using the sliding mod). I did manage to get it working with the stock manual at 1280x960, so that has become my new resolution. Finally managed to resize my captain's log and reposition my message box for the new resolution - can't wait to try this out on patrol, but too late tonight so will have to try tomorrow.

Thanks for figuring this out - been bugging me since day 1

You're welcome. It's funny the things you can find in this game when you aren't even really looking for them. :D

You say you found a way to reposition the captain's log - how did you do this? I've been trying to find that line in the Menu_1024_768 file and haven't found it yet.

Check this thread for the details of how I expanded/relocated the Captain's Log clipboard so it would display my personalized log entries better than the tiny stock version: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...220#post562220

The numbers shown there are for 1024x768 - I'm pretty sure it still works that way at the higher resolutions, but I wanted to expand it even further to take advantage of the extra real estate you get with the higher resolutions so I worked on it some last night. I'll be posting an update for my even-larger version for higher resolutions in a bit - wanna test it a little more than I could last night just to make sure everything works right.

Enjoy!

Got it, thanks!
