You guys are killing me
OK, OK.
I have to cop to a few minor charges here. I still don't have GWX. *ducks, covers* I want GWX. I have seen paradise in so many screenies that I feel like I can almost taste the salt water and diesel exhaust, but fortunately, not the stale sweat and fear... or Bernard's cooking, for that matter. But I've been a little gunshy of getting it, largely due to the fact that this computer, well... liken it to a Type IIA... in 1944. Now, I can run SHIII with little trouble, other than long(ish) load times. 128MB video, 512 system RAM, P4 2.8Ghz. The question is, based on the experience of the GWX devs and crews: Is it worth trying out, knowing that while I'm still recovering from an accident, therefore not working, and therefore unable to upgrade/replace this system? Or would I just be needlessly frustrating myself by putting nirvana just that much closer, but still out of reach? Oh, and BTW - those with a Safeway store nearby - just found Director's Cut of Das Boot for 9.99 at the Safeway near me. :D |
Well my system as is has a lot slower processor than yours - 1.79Ghz
Same memory and graphics Did struggle on 512mb ram TBH - was better on 1Gb I would suggest if you can get another half Gb of ram at least - 1Gb would be better Graphics arent the best on a 128mb card but no different to stock in my experience I have always lowered the particles to make it smoother |
Speaking from experience only, I would never go back to the original. What SH3 did to make a great subsim, gwx made it into the greatest subsim.
I havent given the other mods a chance though, so a little research in what youre looking for might help. But gwx is awesome. You should read the manual that comes with gwx. They covered everything. From sounds to harbor traffic. just remember to follow the instructions. 1. download all the files and the bin files to your desktop... dont forget the patch gwx1.03. 2. create a folder, mine's called GWX, and place all of those files inside of that folder. 3. run the main gxw file and you should be set. 4. then run the patch file, 1.03 5. ta-da! now you dont have to click on the SH3 icon, there will be a gwx sh3 icon created and you can click on that from now on. I also went ahead and got the SH3 Commander because it goes very well in crew management and other things like time in base, tweeking you time compression levels, having the hull integrity back on the crew screen, and more such as the night club. I really think its awesome. |
SH3 Stock :rotfl:
GWX :arrgh!: :damn: :arrgh!: :D :damn: :arrgh!: :dead: :dead: :dead: |
I run GWX just fine (well, not 'fine', but playably) with a system very similar to yours, Growler, except for a much slower processor. You should be okay.
|
Don't worry Growler, although a 512extra Ram to make it a Gig wouldn't hurt... :hmm:
My Radeoncard has 128 MB as well, and my chip can run 1.8 Ghz at max. So there you go... My advice is to get to extra memory and you'll be fine :know: (Unless you're planning an motherboard etc... upgrade soon - wich means my Gig of DDR1 is useless, sigh, it's all DDR2 now, ooooo.. grrrr....but that's another matter :-?). And you might want to keep an eye out for the Light Harbor Traffic GWX-submod... it's included in the GWX download I think. Makes harbors somewhat less laggy, that's the only thing that makes my pc do hickups where GWX is concerned. On the open seas you'll be fine! Gute Jagt! |
Vielen danke!
Heading to the GWX d/l depot as we speak. Thanks again, guys. Appreciate the feedback. I knew I was in trouble RAM wise when I started playing BF2, so that's really no surprise there. [sigh] Out-of-the-box, SHIII was pretty swell; GWX looks like I'll finally be getting out of training and into the war. |
No disrespect to kaleun Avatar :nope:
Try installing the game from these instructions and in particular SH3 Cmdr will work properly/as it was meant to  1. Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs" 2. Open Windows Explorer and: - *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3 - *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder 3. Reinstall SH3 4. If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US) 5. OPTIONAL: Copy and paste this "clean" install as a backup to avoid the need to follow steps 1-3 if your game becomes corrupt in future 6. Visit the GWX homepage and download into the SAME folder GWX.exe and the five .bin files. While there grab the v1.03 patch 7. Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts 8. Run GWX103.exe and follow the installation prompts 9. SH3 COMMANDER USERS: Visit the GWX homepage and download the GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander and unzip the contents DIRECTLY into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder. |

I'm running GWX on 1.4ghz 1gb ram and 256mb graphics (somehwat overclocked) apart from load times and some stutter in home port no problems no crashes.
oh and no TC above 512 I say Go for it! |
Queue evil laughter.:ping: Welcome to the dark side young Jedi.

I just downloaded GWX. It says I need to put it on a clean patched install. The only mods I have installed on my SH3 are a draggable nomo and pato's bearing overlay tool. Do you think I really need to get rid of these first?

By all means, joegrundman... by all means :know:

okeydokey. Thanks for the reply

Mr. Growler,
Don't make the same mistake I did. I waited and waited before I downloaded gwx. Big mistake. Get GWX!!! Add memory to your computer ... safe. Get a video card with 256 memory, plenty of watts and your set. Again, thanks to everybody involved in this mod. |
