when is the best time to start in the war? i want as much action as possible before im forced to retire after 5 or 6 patrols.

A small piece of advice.

Do not dock at your home base and your patrol will not end.

Refit at a 'tender' when your out of munitions, radio in a patrol report, you will recieve a new mission.

It seems to be keyed to the amount of munitions on board. If you finish a mission and still have torps left you will be given another mission. If your out of or low on torps you will not recieve a new mission. Refit, report, and tada ! new mission(s).

As far as I can tell you can do this forever. So several missions per 'patrol'.

There is a catch though. The load times get longer and longer.

When retired in,let's say july 1943,take "laeve in order to give new commanders training in the states" and reenter sevice in 1944.
in game this is carreer ended july 1943.
New game,select starting year:1944
