Can I model a wounded ship?
I have yet to contribute a mod (I've just enjoyed the hard work of others) and would like to do my share for the community. One thing that has always bothered me about SH3 is that wounded ships appear wounded, but don't seem to be affected. For example, last night I conducted an attack on a fast convoy (fast being 12kts) and put a torpedo into the side of a medium merchant. About 4 hrs later, after surfacing and trailing the convoy again, that merchant was flaming and her foc'sle was underwater... but she was still doing 12kts and keeping formation w/ the rest of the convoy. Previous sub sims (going back to Silent Service on my Commodore 64!) had heavily wounded ships slow and sometimes fall out of formation, which I think is more realistic.
Is it possible to modify the speed of a ship to decrease after it takes damage but has not sunk? |
You've just been unlucky.
Most of the time a wounded ship will loose speed and fall back from a convoy. Personally I think it's modelled quite well, within the retraints of the SH3 code. Try hitting a ship near the engine room, it should slow down over time and may eventually stop all together. |
Someones read my tactics ;)
The positive thing about the engine room shot is that even if the ship doesn't stop altogether but just slows right down.....the escorts eventually leave it to tend to the bigger flock....leaving the wounded sheep at your mercy  |
Thanks - I guess it's my aim! I'm still learning to use manual targeting - enjoying it, but much more of a challenge than having an expert marksman Weapons Officer do the solution for me.
