Switching to free-view inside the submarine
 

Does anyone know if it's possible to switch to free-view while inside the submarine, but starting from your current location instead of always hopping back to the command room?

For instance, when I'm standing in front of the sonar or radar station I'd like to be able to switch to free view there so I can look around the sonar or radar area. Every time I press shift-F2 or whatever key it is it teleports me back to the command room, though.

Any ideas, or maybe I'm just doing it wrong?
