Did You ever hit yourself?...

Ahoy!

I've just trying to learn how to hit some boats with manual targeting. Basically I use a nice release of "manual targeting tutorial" made by Hitman (thanks Hitman!). I still have some problems (mainly with AOB finding) but making progres hour by hour. :)
I've made a single mission with slow, clear target to practice. So in second try I fired 3 torpedoes to the vessel and... second one goes in "berserk" mode! :o She flew 180 degrees around my ship and hit my left side. I must admit that I have use an angle spread for second torpedo to left about 4 degree, but I think it was not cause of this strange behaviour of my own torpedo. So, ones again SH4 shows that some things used to happend in real life could happen in the game.

Here are some screenshots of this accident:

With External cameras enabled . . . when you see your torpedo's gyroscope malfunctioning . . . shouldn't you crash dive? I mean you might have to deal with a couple DCs later . . . but better then loosing your sub to your own fish.

Your not the first, you wont be the last.

Try a search on "circular runners"

Yes of course!
During normal duty...
:D

But, as I mentioned previously, I just learn to manual targeting (and I found it very very interesting and enjoyable! ), so when it happen I focus on first torpedo and follow her to see if I correctly manage TDC data. And suddenly I heard explosion but not from vessel direction but from direction of my own ship. :-? I was very surprised, so I go to the ship, surface and found those big hole in "fuselage". ;) I saved replay and watch it again trying to believe it (then I made screenshots also)...

BTW: I think sonarman should inform that something wrong is going on with torpedo... isn't it?

You would think. But unfortunatly we only get "torpedo in the water".

Yeah, need the sonarman to scream 'Circle runner!' The first time I guess we would all say, 'What the hell is he talking about?' I guess we would find out a few seconds later:o

The fact that the sub surfaced speaks volumes about the nerfed sub DM, doesn't it? No wonder DDs have to hit me dozens and dozens of times to sink me.

Yes...part of the sonarman's job was to follow torp's in an attack. I wish they had this in the game....

I had a circle runner once myself. Fortunatelty, I was in an S-Class and I was able to watch the torpedo make several laps around me

I of course didn't dare move until it ran itself out.

It was actually when I was using god's eye view and I was able to see the torpedo go around and around :D

As neat as it is to see circle-runners, without notice from the sonarman, it's a pointless addition. From a gameplay standpoint you need to know about it so you can try to avoid it. If you never know, you might as well have a % chance of being hit by a meteor and sunk, too.

Once again, perhaps part of the rush job to get it out the door:shifty:

Yes it would be nice to hear...

"Torpedo in the water.... Torpedo running hot straight and normal"

or

"Torpedo in the water..... Oh Shoot ! Uhhh sir ? "

Only I dont think they would say Oh shoot :p

Yes, something more colorful and apropose to the situation.

Now if your first mate turns to you and states that he has always loved you...run!!
