Turkish troops enter Iraq
|
Turkey has said repeatedly that if the Kurds keep doing these raids they'll take action. The whole region is one big soap opera.
|
Again, it seems the Kurds will take it in the rump.:nope: :nope: :nope:
|
I support the Kurds before Turkey. Don't like the PKK bombings, but that is how islamic warfare is waged.
Turkey is an "ally" because of all the pipelines that run through it. Their population is headed for fundamentalism, whether their army protests or not. It couldn't handle a Turkish military dictatorship because Lebanon and Syria and Iran would be right the heck up in there with jihadists. Although, I'm not entirely sure that Kurdistan would not eventually become fundamentalist. It's reasonably sectarian right now but that entire area is a land of gangs and clans. |
Events like this are no news. I know that artillery shelling and expeditions of hundreds of troops into northern Iraq took place since short after the 2003 war. and as the article says, it also happened when Saddam still was there.

I don't know what to make of this new build up of troops.
I was worried last time you posted this news, first week of June, but nothing came of it. The oil deal for the Kurds never came through, because of bickering in Iraq's parliment. Now this ... who will defend them? |
Turkey has long complained of U.S. inaction against separatist rebels, who have escalated attacks inside Turkey in recent months.
As I recall Turkey denide the US overflight and troop staging areas in and above its territory during the build-up leading to OIF. I guess they are paying for that decision. There is a lesson to be learned here. |

The US is self serviant. Its not about a noble cause. So suck up or piss off is the policy. |

It goes both ways. In the future the Turks may not help the US....again. |

And we often think the US has an insecure border. Of course the Turks are deploying troops to help secure what IS a very real threat to Turkey. It's expected, though certainly doesn't help the situation in Iraq IMO.
