GWX sunk ship icons?
What is the difference in meaning of the two sunk ship icons (red and gray)? Note: I modded by GWX to red contact lines for warships. Thanks.

Those icons are the same in stock
The grey ones can be unidentified units\weather sinkings or sinkings by yourself that you dont actually see go down |
and the grey ones i have seen as airplanes that impacted the sea by accident or by collision with other aircraft etc.

Well, I only played stock long enough to learn the game controls, and then made the jump to GWX. (I already waited two years to pick up this game; I have to make up for lost time now!)
I saw one go in the event window. I assume that the other must have gone due to flooding. Since I have observed unlike SH2, even when AI collides or sinks its own ships, it will not award tonnage to the player. Thanks. |
No you dont get the tonnage for AI sinking each other
You should still get the tonnage if you sank the target even if the icon is grey |

There is a third option in GWX - report "She's going down" and no icon at all,but tonnage as well as renown are still calculated. That usually happens in similar occasions "grey sunk ships icons" appear - when you damage the ship severly, and it still continues to sail along it's route, actually sinking far away from your position.:)

I sank a ship lastnight and it was a grey ship sunk icon. 0200, very bad visibility, huge storm lotsa rain. It was a medium tanker at BF15. I couldnt see it even at < 500m. But I cheated a little and moved the periscope view, pressing "L," until it was locked with just enough time to fire 3 tropedoes. 2 hit. Scrolled through the ships view, "<" and ">" buttons, and watched it sink. Never saw the ship in real life, though, but sound could hear it sinking.
cool feature |
I think the grey icon means you have sunk a NEUTRAL SHIP.
