sunken ships indicators on maps

i know the red ones are for destroyed ships, but what about the black/dark grey as tho the were done in pencil? they indicate a damaged ship?

from what i can tell that indicates ships that have sunk either by ramming into you or something else or have sunk for otherwise misterious reasons. i could be wrong, but thats the only time i ever see them on my map.

The same as inSH3,sunk by other unit(doesn't come on your account.

Huh Ive never seen this..

I have seen radar contacts in grey.

I think grey icons indicate a ship of unknown nationality. You get the same in SH3 if you sink a ship in bad weather, or fog and don't actually eyeball it to identify it. Not sure what it does to the renown count, 'tho?

Hmmm I seem to get the grey icon instead of the red one if I dont hang aroung to confirm the sinking visually (after having to dive to evade escorts etc for example). If I am surfaced r have the scope up and I am within visual range I usually get the red icon, otherwise I get the grey one...sometimes the grey icon also wont appear until some time later or until I finally surface again.

I got 2 grays while going berserk in a large convoy: managed to sneak dead in the middle of the freighters and let loose a volley of 10 torpedoes at whatever I could see. Needless to say I took my sub down to 200 feet to avoid the destroyers. I hard 3 confirmed kills on the nearby tankers but also 3 other confimed hits (overall 6/10 hits). While dodging left and right I got two more unit destroyed messages -- the map icons for these were gray instead of red. I DID get the credit for both. Never bothered returning to the exact area on the surface to see if they'd turn red liek the orhters. I'm guessing they wouldn't tho.

seems that could be what it is, non visual confirmed kills. i went deep after letting loose 6 fish on the transports then managed to sink 3 more, one of which was grey and went deep again. also managed to damage a DD. it was down by the head and on fire. came about and lined up my stern tubes and put 4 more into it for another kill:ping: . all but one were red which is odd cuz i didn't have a direct visual on them either:-?
