The Greatest and Shortest Career
1st Patrol was with the Swordfish, sank some 50k+ tons. 2nd patrol was with the Swordfish, sank two merchants, plus almost sank the Swordfish with a circling torpedo - see screenshot section. 3rd Patrol: puttering around with the Swordfish, ran across the Taiho in a task force (I usually try to avoid unless they have nice targets of opportunity), sank her with a staggering eight torpedos, sank entire destroyer escort and a cruiser. - Congressional Medal of Honor. 4th Patrol: Comissioned the USS Drum, landed supplies on Luzon, floated around a bit by the lowermost home islands, intercepted and sank 1 large liner, 4 old passenger liner troopships and 2-3 solo merchants... managed another Congressional Medal of Honor. Patrol 5: (March 1941) USS DRUM retired from service for being 'obsolete', 2x Medal of Honor Skipper mothballed as well for 'unimpressive performance'. Go USN. Also those liners sink entirely too quick, of the four I sank 3 with single torpedo's and they sank literally within seconds...however one took about four torpedos. Bad older ship maintence on the Japanese part? |
I never get the CMOH and I've sunk 70,000 tons of shipping before (12 ships), it's just not fair but I agree the end career screens need work, I've been 'mothballed' for poor performance then had a statue made of me afterwards, which is a little bit odd.

From the WIP list for patch 1.3...
The players career is ended sometimes by high command, for inaccurate reasons such as perfectly good and new submarines being retired from frontline duty. This will be sorted out to work as intended. JCC |

How often will you get offered a new boat?? Will you be offered a new type again if you turn it down the first time?? And how do you prevent getting transferred in case you take the offer of a new boat??
|
Last time I took a new boat I landed by butt in Pearl. Talk about a long ass haul to the war zone.
I'm still running around with a Salmon called USS Seal. It's early 43 if I recall correctly. |
Yes, if you turn down a new ship commission you will get later opportunities. You may even be forcibly transferred into a new class as well when your current class are 'phased out' and you have some sort of 'superior dedication'...is all I can remember from that screen. It happened to me once with a S-boat career. Something like this: The navy no longer sees fit to keep your class of boats in service, however for your superior dedication and meritious service to your country and navy you have been given a valubable position atop one of the latest models off of the assembly line. |

I like the Gato, personally. The only real reason I upgraded from the USS Porpoise is because I wanted more torpedo tubes.... Chuck |
