SH4 to SH3

It is with very great reluctance that I have abandoned SH4 and am returning to SH3/GWX. There is no need for a lengthy explanation as the many points of my disappointment have been covered by many others. I am just very frustrated with coming up against "bugs" even after the extensive mods to this sim.
Having said that......I do not appear to have a " 360 Bearing Template" on my SH3/GWX "Attack Chart". I can get the cardinal points overlay which is perhaps all I really need. However would some one please put me right as to wether the "360 Bearing Template" was a download mod or was "in game".........Thanks a million in anticipation.......Dusty.

Passed by a bunch of SHIV DVD's in the supermarket today.Nobody is buying them.I am not going to also. However, you must run around the whole city or even go elsewhere to find a single available copy of stock SHIII.I think that's a real indication of SHIII vs. SHIV comparison.

Now,I bought several blank DVD boxed DVD's and will be writing GWX into one of them,I am going to make,so to say,SHIII personal collection.:D

Sorry to see you go , maybe after patch 1.3 you will be back:hmm: Since SH4 has come out I have been playing it most of the time, along with GWX, nice to have both theatres to go back and forth with.

Good Hunting with GWX:up:

Welcome back kaleun :arrgh!:

Have you tried applying it via the '?' tab at the upper centre/right of your attack screen ? :hmm:

Yes dear chap, but I only get the "Cardinal points" overlay by doing so.

All I can think of is offering you this installation information in the hope you might be able to identify something....it's quite possible you have a corrupt file :yep:
Oh and by the way...the bearing template was 'in - game'

1. Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs"
2. Open Windows Explorer and:
- *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3
- *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder
3. Reinstall SH3
4. If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US)
5. OPTIONAL: Copy and paste this "clean" install as a backup to avoid the need to follow steps 1-3 if your game becomes corrupt in future
6. Visit the GWX homepage and download into the SAME folder GWX.exe and the five .bin files. While there grab the v1.03 patch
7. Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts
8. Run GWX103.exe and follow the installation prompts
9. SH3 COMMANDER USERS: Visit the GWX homepage and download the GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander and unzip the contents DIRECTLY into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.

Yes one assumes 1.3 will put a lot of things right. I have been playing SH4 since it came out in the UK alongside SH3/GWX too. SH4 was modded up to the hilt however. When I checked last night there were 16 mods on SH4, 5 on SH3/GWX and still SH4 wasn't up to scratch for its supposed tactical side. A great shame really because it has the ability of "outshining" even GWX (I say that with deep respect for the GWX team!). The Pacific Theatre of 41-45 was vastly different to the Atlantic Theatre 39-45, something I believe the Devs of SH4 missed or misunderstood by using much of the SH3 format within SH4.

Thanks Jimbu......Having investigated under your direction here, the fault lay in my not cancelling the MAIN SH3 Folder in "my documents"......silly me!.....Dusty.

I stopped playing SH4 after the last patch, too, but I have high hopes and am looking forward to 1.3. So don't give up yet, kaleun!

Hardly the case. Sh3 came out 2 years ago and I doubt there are many new copies being made anyway, nor is there much demand as most of those who wqould buy it have already got it.

My plan is to stick with GWX until the patches run dry on SH4 and hope that a group like GWX takes on a similar effort with SH4. I think SH4 has a lot of potential and I really love the theater (more shallow areas, more islands, task force action etc).

Well there you go!!! I knew as soon as I threatened UBI to take SH4 off my screen they would shudder in their boots and come up with the much needed Patch. It is nice to know that our petition did not fall on deaf ears. Now all I need is a petition from you all to stop paying Income Tax on my Naval Pension.....it might just work too!!!! LOL

Can you have a similar word with my commanding officer because I'm looking for an early retirement package?

As I don't have so much interest in the Pacific, I haven't bought SH4 yet. But I will at some point if only to support the ongoing development of submarine sims. And who knows, if it's modded as well as GWX, I might even get into all things Pacific (although Pacific Fighters didn't do it for me in the Il2 series).

GWX itself though is the combination of many mods, plus what people are adding to it presently. If properly patched, SH4 has potential to reach GWX heights. Still some will stay away because of it being in the Pacific , that's fine, in the end it is all about choice :yep:.

As mentioned I like the option of both theatres.
