GWX mapicon question

Hello.

I am playing Silent Hunter III with the GWX mod. Is it possible to remove GWX´s grey map icon and go back to the stockversions red-blue and gren?

You're welcome. The answer was fast because we don't want you to stay away from GWX for too long ;) :p :D

Personally,I like "Grey Icons" feature very much. They do add a great deal of realism.

Me too. I think they're much better but it's good to have an option I guess.

Yes,it's nice to have an option, but to my mind GWX is just ultimately perfect in all aspects.Nothing should be changed,I think.

Melnibonian,it's just that great deal of rush, when you approach the ship and don't know it's nationality until the last 1000-1200 meters. That's adds additional excitement.:D

I wouldn't say excitement, I'd say frustration (but in a positive way), LOL! F'instance, the other night I stumbled upon two unescorted merchants - Large Cargo and Liberty Cargo (or similar). Got a bit too excited and let off my first thinking it was Honduran. Umm, no, it was Argentinian (it was dusk and I was on the "dark" side and didn't notice at first). Fortunately it didn't sink.

I must admit though that I use Rubini's contact mod. This mod makes all warship contacts red whilst leaving everything else grey. As one could tell a warship from a merchant through screw revolution, and indeed SH3 "announces" warships when identified, I don't have a problem with this approach.

One thing though, I'll never go back to the green/blue/red approach of stock SH3.

However, a bit of difference between neutral and allied ships is still there, even with grey icons. You can notice that actually during calm, ideal weather.

If you encounter such grey icon of an allied ship - a dialog screen will pop-up,offering you to engage the target,or dive to periscope depth.

If you encounter such grey icon of a neutral or firendly ship - a dialog screen will not pop-up.

I mean, there are certain situations in GWX when ship is actually recognized automatically, without the need to observe it's flag. :D

Also, when the weather is fine and allied ship is spotted, crew starts preparing your deck gun for engagement. You don't even see it's flag. And when neutral or friendly ship is close in the same situation - crew does not prepare the deck gun.

So,some indicators are there in any case.:D

To be honest with you guys I use the Ship camera option some times to make sure if the target is neutral or not. I know it's not realistic and we have to ID the targets manually but I hate losing renown

Yes, and a **spoiler** dead giveaway is if you are surfaced and within visual range. No reaction from the ships is a fairly good indication that they are neutral. Evasive reaction means they're fair game. ;)

Also if you are in High TC and it drops to 8 when the ship appears (within visual range) is an indication that it's neutral. If the TC drops to 1....... Open Tube Doors, Battlestations and start preparing the Victory Pennants ;)
