I have a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro ( AMD Atlon 64 proccesor 3000 MMX), what card is best to upgrade my machine (for a nice price)?

What kind of video slot do you have? AGP or PCI-E?

I have the mobile version under my fingertips here, decent card.

AGP.

For a balance between price and performance on an AGP, I'd say either a 7600GT, or even better a 7800GS. The prices have been dropping on them but it's unfortunate to have an AGP slot as you're limited in choice these days. Also - they cost more than PCI-E.

Not really. Played any games like Doom 3? The ultra high texture setting will use all 512. I beleive Quake 4 actually had even higher res textures. Oblivion can use a GB I believe (It may be less at 768 - I forget)

You can run the really high res textures if you want on a lower mem card, but it is really slow to swap that info in and out over a PCI-E or AGP bus. Not recommended.

I have a PNY 6800GT currently, but many of my friends have warned me about PNY as a manufacturer.

I have been running PNY GForce cards for years now
 

I have had almost no problems what so ever where as when I tryed ATI there were too many game problems and things i couldn't see or experience that were supost to be in the games.

But the best thing now a days to get the best grafics is to have a PCI Express Bus if you want to keep up with where the games are going. All the new mother boards have that now and if you upgrade to a newer mother board that means a better CPU as well. I just upgraded to a Pentium Extream Quad Core and never realized how smooth a game could run.

Just got the card I told you guys about and you would be surprised just how crystal clear the graphics are.

Just always remember the higher end cards need more power to run them sometimes so keep an eye on what your PC's power suply out put is VS what the card manufacture sugests.

I've only owned one PNY and it was a GF Ti4400. Bought it when it first came out.

It lasted 5 years.
