Any luck near Freetown?
I recently got my type IX, excited to do some patrols down near freetown (I'm Dec '41 right now). Now, historically this was some good hunting for type IXs early on in the war, but I have yet to have a single kill during two extended patrols down there. In fact, I've only received one report of merchant traffic (when I moved to intercept, it was the storm of the century however and I never saw him)! WTF? Is there some secret grid that they're all passing through that I don't know about or is this pretty common for everyone?
It's a bummer because with the lack of action with my type IX so far, I'm yearning for my days of patrolling just outside britain with my VII... |
The ocean is BIG, and with that small radius of listening its easy to miss a lot. Check the charts to see the shipping lanes, or and if and or .. use GWX3, much more traffic.
Take care Kamerad. |
When I went down there in early 1940, all I found was a heap of destroyer traffic constantly going back and forth. Picked up about 6 different DD's doing laps.

Yea, I saw the same group of destroyers. They patrol all up along the coast north of Freetown. Ironic considering there doesn't seem to be any merchant traffic to protect...
And I am using GWX3, but unfortunately still haven't really seen anything. |
Yes. June of '41, and have been following a north bound convoy for 5 days. Have sank 2 tankers, 2 cargo, and one flower. Picked them up off of Freetown.

Where's Prisontown?

GWX3???
i go on a four day trip and i miss something like that??? please expand on this |
Convoys from Freetown move close to a north-south line south of the Cape Verde line. You should be able to find one and follow it attacking every night. Good sport there.
Pick a point about 50 kms east of Sal Island, draw a line toward the south and place yourself on that line NW of Freetown, you're bound to intercept a convoy |
