On-line sub sim development in the near future?
This is just my opinion, Guys, but I believe that the Silent Hunter series could possibly end with Silent Hunter 4. Ubisoft is doing everything that a company that is looking to end a franchise would do in my opinion.
If that proves to be the case, then independent on-line sub sim development like http://dangerdeep.sourceforge.net/ may well be the future for us. The advantages here are that with the devs not having to deal with the 'suits' and the BS that comes with them, and in fact getting to deal with the real sub simmers who will actually play the game, the resulting game should be well tested, not buggy, and easily moddable. The main downside would be how long it would take to fully develop a game this way. What do you guys think? |
This is the only way sub simming will survive. Check this thread...

Hmmm. Doesn't look good does it. I think the Devs on Silent Hunter 3 and Silent Hunter 4 were passionate about producing high quality sub sims, while Ubisoft management seemed less than enthusiastic.
Ubisoft's recent behaviour leads me to believe that they will announce the end of the Silent Hunter series sooner rather than later. Please understand that I have no inside knowledge here...this is purely a personal opinion. I'm just looking at options. |
This thread is very similar to the alternative development thread. Closing thread.
