Ahoy me hearties! (or whatever submariners say..)

Hi guys, this is your "Angel" speaking =P

Three years ago a boy that I was quite interested in recommended that I watch a movie called "Das Boot," that he described as a "great film about submarines." Despite the fact that I knew nothing, nor really cared about submarines, my desire to impress him drove me to buy that movie, $33 for something I'd never even seen, and doubted I'd enjoy.

Three years later, that boy is now the man I'm going to marry, and that movie was probably one of the reasons he decided to ask me to be with him. Not only do I owe my relationship with the most important person in my life to Das Boot, it's pretty damn good film after all.

If you know Kapitan_Phillips, I'm pretty sure you know me. It brings a blush to my cheeks to read that ya'll call me "angel" and the thread wishing me well when I was sickest made me cry. I've never even met you people, but when I talked to my Richie when I was in the hospital, your words made me laugh through tears and grow to love all of you a lot.

So submarines turned out to be pretty cool! I can't say I've ever played any of the sims you guys advertise, but I'm sure I know as much about them (if not more) from all the talking Richie's done. I swear, we can't have a single conversation without a U-Boat update. He's also read me some of the detailed logs he keeps. Okay, I lied. Not several, all. And you can bet that the first night we share the same bed he's going to be running Silent Hunter so he can go to sleep listening to the engines.

So he's pretty much beaten sub-fandom into me. It's like living with a leper, I can't not catch it ;) Kapitan_Phillips is my heart, I love him more than anything in the world and I'd do anything to be in his arms forever. He's the sweetest guy you'll ever meet, although he often tries reeeally hard to hide it. I could type for hours about what a spectacular human being he is, but I'm sure you all already know it!

The main reason I've joined (aside from the constant prodding from Richie) was to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers during my time in the hospital. I know you guys might be wondering what was wrong, and I told Richie he could tell you, but I'm not sure he did.
I was admitted to a rehabilitation center for an eating disorder, bulimia nervosa. When I went in, I was 10 pounds underweight and dropping about 4 pounds a week. My heart rate was dangerously out of whack, and my asophagus (or however you spell it) was seriously damaged. I was in starvation mode, which means my body was trying to digest itself. I stayed in 24hour care for almost 3 weeks, and then continued with a day program for about 2 months. I'm happy to say I'm continuing in my recovery, and I know part of the reason I was able to get through all that was knowing that all of you cared about me.
I'll never ever be able to thank all of you enough, so just know that if there's ever anything I can do for any of you, I'm happy to do it!

Well I guess I'll wrap this up, I dont want to write a novel or anything! Hopefully I'll get over my chronic laziness to post every once in awhile

Lucky. My girlfriend doesn't even know what a u-boat is. Although she did make a cute attempt at drawing a cartoon submarine on the front of a birthday card, complete with L-shaped periscope, and did give me a rockin' Cliff Kearns print of an F4J for Christmas

Mmmmmmm F4J :stare: Wait, what was the topic again? Oh yes. Nice job on the recovery and welcome to SubSim! :arrgh!:

WELCOME!!!

DRINKS ARE ON ME! :()1:

A new comer. Nice! You're even a woman (we don't get too many of those here; heck, aside from Sea Queen, Penelope Grey, and the Avon Lady, we get none at all, I think.) I have talked to "Kaptain Phillips," interesting person. Are you really the one in his signature?

My GF is just like Fatty's. "What's a 'ooh-boat?'" This usually ends up being a thing of foreplay...well, nevermind. Too much information.

Jesus, I've had quite the few drinks today...should probably stop before I pass out on my computer.

Forgot to add:

I do think that Neal (The forum/website creator and our "god") gives free avatars to women-fellows.

Also, buy Dangerous Waters.:)

....and ignore my signature. It's just a temporary thing. Probably looks ugly to most.

Reminds me of those dating services where women can sign up for free since they are grossly outnumbered and are in such high demand :p

Welcome! I can't believe I can get to say this directly to you...but...are you aware that you look like Hermione from the Harry Potter movies?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1773
It's only missing the wings. :D

I have a few questions, if you don't mind:

1) Do you have a magic wand like Hermione? Can you cast spells with it?

2) Is Kaptain Phillips really a vampire?

3) Did you end up with an eating disorder because he sucked all the blood out of you?

4) Did he sent you flowers like I suggested?

Keep up the good work. I'm counting on you and you can count on us.

Welcome aboad Frau Phillips (maybe that should be Fraulein until you are married?).

I know exactly what you're talking about here, as my wife (Maxine) has been through the same thing (both with submarines and aeroplanes), I've dragged her on board U-534 for a tour, forced her to fly in 1930s biplanes with me, made her sit there with me watching war films ('Has this one got blood and snot in it too?' is her usual comment) and basically dragged her all around the country to look at rusty old boats and aeroplanes!

But I don't get away with it all for free, her hobby/interest is breeding dogs, which means I get to live in a house with eight of the things (just one doggy being mine). I also get dragged around the country with her to go to various dog shows (which often bores me to tears, I have to say), but our marriage is a two-way street where sharing each other's interests is something we (occasionally grudgingly) do.

My wife is now very knowledgable about WW2 aeroplanes and submarines, and can spot a Spitfire further away than the average Luftwaffe pilot probably could. And one of her friends was actually in The Dambusters movie. Similarly, I know more about the genetics of dogs than I ever really wanted to (I prefer throwing frisbees for them in the park), and I can actually groom and trim a dog properly for Crufts.

Sharing an interest with someone you care about is one of the bits of mortar that cements a relationship together. So good luck to the pair of you.

Incidentally, my wife thought that the Das Boot plays Silent Hunter clips were hilarious.

:D Chock
