Worst case scenario?

Assuming worst case scenario and UBI do not release any further patches for Silent Hunter IV what exactly are the modders capable of? Can many of the bugs be fixed by the mod scene or are there any specific issues that that are simply not fixable without the sourcecode/SDK?
