My dad was on this ship when it sank. Obvioulsy he survived. He was with the 172nd Regimental Combat Team.

I remember seeing a story that the national geographic magazine ran many years ago about the ship. Seeing this post brings back the memories (I still have the issue laying around somewhere)

Its strange, i spent a while there and never heard a peep about it!
