Imagine how....alone....he must have felt out there in the middle of the Atlantic.

It was an amazing accomplishment. Of course he was the first to do it solo, not the first to do it at all. That distinction went to Alcock and Brown, back in 1919.
I've read Lindberg's book, and seen the great movie with Jimmy Stewart. If you haven't done either, you should. |

Viva Lindberg!

As an aviator, I salute our pioneers.

While his flight across the Atlantic was noteworthy, the effects on aviation pale next to what Charles Lindberg and his wife did in the Pacific later. The both of them painstakingly mapped out aviation routes across Alaska and Russia that were used for years. They tested out the routes in all weather conditions and published the first Asian emergency fllight plans in case incliment weather forced an Airline to divert.
Not taking anything away from his historic 1927 flight, but Charles Lindberg did so much more for aviation that few people remember. |
One of the best songs of this decade (subjectivity YAH!) is about this flight.
It's a long pun on the aircraft, the city of St. Louis, and the song Louie Louie :) http://www.saltywater.co.uk/songs/th...tofstlouis.php |
