World In Conflict

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned this yet, an upcoming RTS by Massive Entertainment. Looks pretty good...the graphics particularly, far beyond the reach of my machine that's for certain...but a definate incentive to upgrade. Storyline by Larry Bond, a bit far fetched, something along the lines of Red Alert 2  But, Cold War gone hot scenarios are few and fair between in the RTS world, particularly ones that look this good.
The NATO side has just been unveiled in the latest trailer, and I think Leopard tanks are included, so that's got Skybirds vote ;)

War is coming home.

The image you posted looks more as concept art than actual ingame footag to me. But maybe I'm wrong.

You'd be surprised, the graphics in this thing are cutting edge, particularly the tactical nuke.

That is one heck of a really nice looking game! :yep: I want it already! It has a storyline that makes me want to jump right off of my chair and fight back! :o

Hopefully the rig (in sig) that will be arriving sometime this week *crosses fingers* will be able to run it like it looks in those previews because those are looking truly amazing.

I love the cinematic trailer where the Russians are invading Seattle and the Shilka starts firing at the news chopper with the bullets flying everywhere and the people standing around it ducking out of the way, it looks so realistic!

:arrgh!:

My friend told me about this game two days ago. This game looks really nice, but it's a shame that the conflict is mainly between the US and the SU. I know that they unveiled NATO as a team, but where is the Warsaw pact in that case?:hmm:

Oberon 05-21-07 05:20 AM

Yeah, would be nice for the WP to make an appearance, hopefully that'll make it for an add-on, or a card up the sleave that the devs haven't mentioned yet.

Maybe because it's the late 80's the warsaw pack for the most part threw down their arms, except in cases where they were forced to go forward by the guns of the Soviets behind them . . . or maybe they are split with revolts in the ranks?

Me too. I'm running on an old ATI x1900 XTX, and a dual core 4400+, and 2 GB RAM. Not quite cutting edge anymore.

I would not say that this would be the case. I am confident that the Wasaw Pact countries would participate in an attack against NATO, and not under gun threat. Don't forget that all high ranking officers in all WP armies where schooled in Moscow.
And the WP's plans for an attack on NATO are official since many years back. They can be found on the internet, www.coldwar.com(I think). The remaining WP countries also had a big role in a possible war.

this was a very very fun game. I spent a lot of time playing the closed beta and I can't say enough good things about it.

Safe-Keeper 06-23-07 01:48 AM

I participated in closed beta testing, too. It was truly awesome. A bit too arcade-ish for me, but that's just a matter of taste - nothing a realism mod won't fix.

I wrote a detailed account here, and uploaded some screenies, for those interested.

As a side note, I just learned that I'll receive a piece of the Berlin Wall if I buy the Collector's Edition:o. There's a smart marketing ploy if I ever saw one.

As for expansion pack countries, I'd go for the Warsaw Pact nations and the People's Republic of China.
