Wolfpack Question

Hello fellow Kapitäne! Is there any way to engage in wolfpack activities in career mode? Good Hunting.

in Stock... No

with GWX... well ... kind of

GWX offers something that vanilla wont, convoys that will spawn with a few U-boats around them closing in... if your close enough you can join them in the attack. sadly though they cannot submerge, or fire torpedoes i think they can only use deck guns and flak guns against the enemy ships.... and since these convoys are escorted the action does not last longer than a couple of minutes and ends quite unfavorably for the U-boats.

so far in SH3 the only way to operate in wolf packs is to do so on multiplayer.

Well that sucks. Thank you for your reply tho:)

Shame there isn't a way to script some of the AI u-boats to disappear when they come in contact and then have one or two convoy ships explode a little later as though they have been hit by other subs.

This would be reasonably realistic, as there are lots of accounts of sub crews figuring out another sub was in the area from events such as this, and it's not as if the subs would be radioing one another and co-ordinating attacks, which tends to happen via TS in multiplayer, making it less realistic anyway.

Chock :D

generally the wolfpacks would be coordinated through BDU... one boat would report contact, BDU would then order that boat to begin broadcasting a locator beacon which other boats could home in on, when BDU was satisfied with the number of boats that had reported in that they had arrived at the convoy the green light would be given for the attack.

more or less thats the way it worked as i understand it.

ships and airplanes could then ... and still do today often navigate off of AM frequency bands. so closing in on a submarine transmitting on a specified freq would have been as easy as following an indicator needle on a direction finder.

It could be argued this or something very similar does happen :yep: Have you never come across a convoy that has holes in its defence because it is obvious escorts are missing and some of the merchants are ablaze and listing ? :hmm:

What ended up happening to the AI torpedoes mod? Did that end up going anywhere? I know Sergbuto was working on it some time ago but I lost track of the thread.

I have found that these are convoys that spawned with u-boats closeby
