Why? Why?

October 30, 1939 is the date. Convoy inbound to my position (AM53 to be exact). 19:04 is the time. Sitting pretty in my Fubar skinned IXB. All eels still on board. Escorts pass me by :yep:. Ok I'm thinking, let's start a fight! Wouldn't be able to see the Ark Royal if it were 100m to port, but my spirits are high. Peeking through the periscope I identify Large Tankers, Pass/Cargos, Whalers, C&D's, Large Mercs and a Revenge Class. Well I gotta go for a Tanker and that Revenge, right? :arrgh!: 539 meters and closing, so I let the eels out for a feedin' on that Revenge. 2 to be exact. The first torp hits the ol' ship in the lower ribs. Ouch! that had to hurt I'm thinking. Second eel is a little sluggish and catches the big pig in the rear. A split second decision and I'm on the Large Tanker. After sending 2 eels on their way, I dive hard to port and hit 65 meters. Silent run and let's see what happens. Search lights pierce the rain, fog and dark. Maybe I'll stay put for awhile. Tanker is down! Then the doubting and frustration sets in. Why didn't I hit the ol' battle pig with 3 torps? I try in vain to follow the convoy in as far as I can, but with those pesky C&D's kept me down. Morning comes and no Revenge Class waiting for me up top. :damn: Hard lesson learned. Let'em rip if ya got'em from now on! Oh how I love this game though. :D

I share that frustration. Though mine is usually reserved for longer distance shots, that take a couple of minutes to get there, only to find they have missed or not detonated, and DD's are now heading to where I was.

Oh the addiction....

sounds like you have learnt the lesson - if you see a high value target like a revenge, and you have a perfect firing solution / setup, let it have it with all 4 tubes :yep:

Nothing worse than wasting a good firing position, and watching a target slip away when something goes wrong.

I've unfortunately let a Fiji class slip from my grips just recently by not giving it everything I had.

Aghh, sympathies, we all do it :yep: . If I can get that target with one torp, then I'll save a torp or two for other targets ... and get each of them with one torp ... etc etc ... and then oops / nuts / missed! Gotta love it. :D
