100 k on type VII

I just returned from my 3 rd patrol, dec 1939 - Jan 1940, on a type VII B boat, 90% realism.

Total tonnage this patrol is 106 K ton.:smug: The biggest contributor was HMS Nelson with 36,000 tonne. It was in a convoy that I attacked. It took 3 torps to sink it.

The patrol last longer than I expected, and I had to be really picky. I encountered many small ships (small freighters, passenger cargos) but I left them alone cause they're only 2000 ton or something. I only attacked small ships using deck guns, and opportunities to attack small ships were limited by the wheather condition. When wheather was bad, and I couldn't use a deck gun, I let those small ships passed by.

I just wonder how many times You saved before firing a torp and loaded after it missed or turned out to be dud... :rotfl:

I play DID so I don't do that.

As an experienced Kaleun, with 4 careers so far :D, I only use impact pistol and shot the torp from a close range (less then 1000 m, I try to get as close as 400 m to a target), from 80-90 degree angle to guarantee a hit and explosion.

I don't have dud torp whenever I do this. In my previous careers, several times I had dud torps. Not sure if it was dud or because the torps hit the ship from a sharp angle and just bounced off the hull.

Do you need SH3Commander to get the names on the list like that?
I just run GWX 1.03 and have now sunk a Revenge battleship and a Fiji class light cruiser and never got the ship names on the log.

Danke Herr rb4door. I only use GWX v. 1.03, no SH3 Commander yet. I'm computerally challenged, so I stay away from anything that is complicated, or seems complicated to me :D

oh ok - well, same as my install - i'll have to keep an eye on the logs - perhaps the ships I sunk were not special enough to have names :hmm:

If you're smart enought to install SH III and the GWX mod, you are definitely smart enough to use Sh III commander.

I'm new to manual targeting so this is about all I can manage right now.


If it's farther than say 2000m, or the AOB is more than 15 degrees away from 90, my hit ratio drops to like 1 in 3 I'd wager.


I now see the value in wide salvos for tougher shots. Before I could never bring myself to fire knowing one or two torps had to miss. But sometimes it's the best play.
