Possible reason for game crashes?

Cheers all, I have had SHIV crash only a couple of times, but when it does, maybe 5 minutes before I get a stuck sound. What I mean is, some sound file gets stuck on repeat and just plays over and over. It goes away with high time compression but comes back on real time. It is a sound of metal clanging, just over and over again. I get very annoyed but then the game usually crashes soon after. Then I get even more annoyed and throw my mouse against the wall in disgust. (not really:lol: )

Has anyone else had this problem before a crash? Or at all for that matter? Thanks!

Nope, I've had only 1 CTD so far. And that was after accidentally hitting "A" before patch 1.2 had resolved that issue. Have you tried updating your sound drivers?

Yeah, my sound drivers are up to date. I have a sound mod or two installed as well so if no one else has this problem I might ask about it in the modders forum. Maybe it is one of the sound mods doing it.:yep:

Go to your soundcard or whatever type of sound you are using and reduce the acceleration on it. See if that helps. If not and you are using a sound mod, your computer does not like this sound for some reason. Remove the mod and see how she goes.

Thanks, i'll try it. Won't I lose surround sound by doing that however? Not a huge deal, just curious.

No sound will be lost at all. I do not know how the accelerations works but some computers and games it is not a good mix. I have mine reduced and no issues with any applications.

About a week ago, I started getting a huge amount of CTDs, then noticed that I seemed to crash about certain times while transiting to patrol areas....

moved all of my radio stations out of the radio folder, volia- game runs great, but no radio.

how's that for weird? must have been when you crossed from one station to another...
