Which version did you see? If it wasn't the 5-hour uncut version, you're in for another big treat.

Hey, seriously? There is a longer version :rotfl:
Where to get it?:up::up: |
There are three versions
The theatrical version, what was shown in the theatres when it was released outside of germany The Director's cut edition, For thoese who want more depth and some background details that may intrest you. The mini series edition, The 5 1/2 hour fanatic version. As it was shown on German TV. After this move you will be humming "It's a long way to Tipperary" for weeks on end! |

It is an excellent toon to hum |
The 5 hours seemed a bit too much for me. I opted for the 4 hour (?) version. It was the version of the movies, but with the developmental seans added in or whatever wikipedia said.
I HAVE been humming Tipperary for a week now. It even found it's way into my MP3 player. |
What you get:
Theatrical version: 2-1/2 hours Director's Cut: 3-1/2 hours (probably the "4-hour" version you saw). 'Original, Uncut Version', also known as the miniseries version, but without the credits at the beginning and end of each episode; 293 minutes (4 hours 53 minutes), the '5-hour' version. What you'll see if you see the long version is: The 'Old Man' and Thomsen discussing torpedo failures in the club; scenes featuring Ulmann's French girlfriend (very pretty!); more crash dives; more air attacks, including one which may not be; more depth charging; a scene in which they actually argue about the ethics of leaving the British sailors behind in the water (instead of just staring at each other); more scenes of the 'Hitler Youth' 1WO, rounding out his character much more fully; and, most important of all, the whole thing is narrated by Lt. Werner! You don't have to watch it all at one sitting; I usually just watch an hour or so at a time. In fact, I kind of wish they had released it with the episodes intact, so I could watch it as a very nice TV show. |

I've seen both the original and the director's cut but I havn't seen the un cut version or mini series yet. Does anyone know if that would be released for us U-Boat Kaptains ?
|
If you live in the UK it usually comes out on the telly every Christmas on BBC2. That's where I first watched Das Boot, it rekindled my submarine interest and the rest is history as they say.

Just ordered the uncut version on internet! Look forward to see the whole thing as I've only seen the directors cut
