External Torps Question

Hi folks!

Can someone please tell me why my external torps do not load? Yesterday, I was driving an IXB and noticed my much needed externals were not loading.

Cheers!

Were you on the surface, need to be on the surface for externals. Did you have Silent Running on, if so they will not load. Did you have enough crew where you were loading?

Did you see this thread: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=114137

And I'll add that unlike internals, you have to physically move the externalls into the reserve slots - drag and drop.

Hope this helps

Just want to add to this discussion since the original query has been answered. When the sea is rough, I am talking more than 6 meters per second. Do you still load your external torpedoes into the boat, or do you pretend you can't a'la real life? I pretend I can't.

Same here... I "anchored" sometimes in some protected bay (like in the Shannon in Ireland) to reload my externals.

I thought you couldn't anyway...like manning the guns?

Same here, if the weather is rough then I don't do it.

This true, have not done this in rough water in awhile and forget:hmm:

I certainly can (but don't) load the externals in weather that precludes the use of the deck gun. Is there perhaps a higher treshold, if it is there at all?

It's probably not realistic, but even when I cannot use the guns I reload the externals. I just order all stop and have them don their swimming trunks... then GET TO WORK! hehe.

Going back to the original question.

On odd occasions, my stern externals will not budge unless I have also crew in the bow torpedo room.

I dont know if you can load the stern external into the bow torpedo room, or vice versa.
I have never encountered the problem with them not loading externals. Make sure the torpedo room is filled, silent running off, and just to make sure, have all stop ordered? Then click and drag to the empty slot(not the tubes) and then move pointer over the external slot and it should say 59.59 minutes or something. Also, the crew wont load if there is a prior load in progress, it says "waiting for queue" or something.
I dont know what else is afoot here.

Don't forget to uncheck "auto-loading", top-left of the torpedo-screen (I-key).

Thanks everyone! I made my first journey through the perilous English Channel 1940 with good results. Unfortunately, I didn't know how to load the externals. Many thanks again...I'll need those torps ---hopefully!

Cheers!
