GXW is giving me a beating!
For the first time in SHIII, I am REALLY afraid of attacking a convoy.
For the first time in SHIII, I really feel the danger of staying on the surface. Been air attacked 8 times in the last 48 hours, when leaving off Bergen and passing over England. Not only one airplane, but each wave with at least 4. Even schorkelling its dangerous. I have been attacked 3 times while in TC 128. I detected a convoy, but constant air attacks never gave me the opportunity to reach the area. I'm already at 70% hull, and only sank one DD (testing my new Falke torpedo, hehehe - Sweet Vengeance!!!) I didn't want to be transferred to Penang (I "own" a IXD2), so I left Lorient and now my base is Bergen. Wondering if that was a smart move, as now I'm near the big action, and in Feb/44. Ouch!!! Another day I found a convoy with 7 DDs. I tried to attack, and learned a lesson. Died. I restarted the career, because I was not used to GWX. But from now on, I will play Dead-is-Dead. My excuse is that it's difficult to understand the new reality when you play from Day 1 with vanilla SHIII, then upgrade to Rub, then TGW, and when you face GWX - WOW! Thanks for the dev team of GWX for bringing a more realistic environment to my simulation! PS: By the way, what TC do you recommend to use in GWX, and in 44? |
I haven't reached 44 yet. But I think the lower the TC, the better the chances not to be caught with your pants down. Good luck!

GWX will kill you so fast you will not see it. :dead:
I love this mod and I am addictive to it, pass me more GWX. Yea the good stuff. |
That's good to hear rfunes :yep:
I've just read another thread which refers to GWX as 'eye candy' :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: |

How dare they, put them up against the wall and give them a good soaking with a high powered water gun. |
Eye candy, yeah... :rotfl:
Tell this to my u-boat repair team. They are working like crazy. Now it's clear that those Flaks (and the deck gun) in GWX '44 are 100% useless. If you have a situation that you really need them, enjoy. It will be the last... For my next patrol, I will use the SH3 Commander "remove deck gun" option. That is, if I survive this one... :o |

Tell that to my 5 dead Kaleuns:nope: |
where exactly is this post?
|
I'd rather not say mate, I'll obviously get accused of being biased  But a search should find it easy enough (tis a curent thread)

EYE CANDY? I have the perfect punishment for such a comment:
SHIII Vanilla - Scapa Flow run in '42 THEN GWX - Scapa Flow run, same year. Yeah...its just 'eye candy' |

I'm with rfunes on this. I just (and I mean only just by the skin of my teeth), finished my first Bergen patrol in early '43. From about 100km off the Norway coast I was detecting radar signals of aircraft and DD's. One lucky night I picked up a task force and managed to sink HMS Victorious:arrgh!:, but from then on my trip was aircarft nightmare. I think I managed to spend about 2-3 hours per day game time on the surface on my way to patrol grid AM47.
As I got to within 80km of my patrol area two Sunderlands jumped me and knocked outboth periscopes, my radar, radio and radar detector. There was also a whole stack of hull damage and batteries etc. were out for a while, so the damage control was a world of pain for about half an hour real time. After spending the next 6 hours underwater U754 limped back home by going way north of Torshaven and back to Bergen with only two more ships sunk and 6 torps in the boat. Love this game and GWX has just made it ever more fun than ever. |
